Ok, so I was planning to take a break from training anyway before Christmas. Yesterday my wife and daugther got me my Christmas present early, a 5 1/2 week old Boxer, a female named Maggie. The mother died in childbirth so she still has to be fed every four hours or so by hand but she is doing fine. But she has really pretty much ended my training time. Hopefully, I will get her to the point in a week or so that I can do short runs while she naps. I'm looking forward to taking her on runs when she gets old enough. Boxer's are great dogs, they can look mean but they are really just big babies.

Congrats on the new addition. We just got a new 7 month old bloodhound pup last month. That added to the 4 year old we already had is a handful. Nothing like 150+ lbs of dog running around.

Wow ..... usually it is not "legal" to get a pup until 8 weeks. I guess with the extunating circumstances it was necessary. Some breeders will sneak them in the 7th wek since that is the best time for bonding and acclimitization. We got our Weim. just at the end of the 7th, beginning of the 8th.

Take care of that little girl and she will bring you lots of happiness!

Oh man, congratulations that's so cool. I love Boxers

Boxers are just about the sweetest-natured dogs out there. I had one I rescued years ago . I loved him dearly, but they are ABSOLUTELY NOT built for distance running. They are spring-loaded and love to play, but their ability to breathe is compromised by their smashed-in faces, and they don't seem to have a very good cooling system. They are good for a spin around the block, a game of fetch, or romping in the back yard. Runs of a mile or more are out of their league.

Keep lots of towels handy

Also note that some recommend that you don't run a dog until they are 6 months old as their bones are still devolping.

One of the people I work with runs 5-10 miles several times per week. On shorter runs he takes his boxer. Has for years. Says she gets upset when she doesn't get to go.
