Ok...last year..I put up this thread and let me tell you, your suggestions were GOLDEN!! So...let me know what you put in your special needs bags that might be unique and useful to a triathlete trying to finish her first Ironman (I DNF'ed last year..) For your info, I am racing Ironman Florida

Thanks for your words of wisdom!!!

Athletic (cloth) tape and Ace bandage in run bag.  Almost certainly saved me from a DNF...but I probably wouldn't have packed them if I wasn't injured going in.  However, after talking to someone else today who also taped up an injury in mid-IM run, I may make that a permanent feature.

Didn't access special needs bag at all.
Just had an extra spare in the bike one, just in case i use the one I was carrying.
And had extra socks, shorts, shirt in the run one, again just in case chafing, wet, whatever.

Bike: spare tube and CO2 cartridge, some food that would make me happy.  I had red licorace and a rice crispy treat which I have to say was about the best thing I ever ate at mile 80 on the bike.

Run: DIET COKE, more licorace and another rice crispie treat.  Some tums, blister pads and tylenol all in a little snack size baggie I cold slip in my tri top pocket.

My coaches advice was to put something in run special needs that will 1-make you smile....a picture some food whatever 2-something to look forward to.  The prospect of a cold diet coke at 13.1 miles was enough to keep me moving!!

How did you keep it cold?
Little collapsable cooler or something?

Look at the IMKY Athlete Guide - They are now special nutrition bags.  It says you won't be getting the bag back.  I guess they want to cut some costs by having to take care of the bags.

TUMS and rolaids for bike and run SN!  Had mega stomach issues that I had not experinced in training.  Wound up sharing them with quite a few people on the run course.

I did a 92 mi ride yesterday and went through some puddles. Decided that a pair of socks in my bike SN wouldn't hurt.

Bike Bag included: C02 cartridges, spare tubes, 2 water bottles pre-filled/mixed with Infinit nutrition so all i had to do was swap out the old bottles, pb&j uncrustable (in case i wanted food), xtra salt tabs and GU in the event mine launched off the bike by accident

Run bag included: arm warmers, advil, toothbrush (you will find your teeth so fuzzy feeling after all the sugary stuff you eat thruout the day, felt great to brush w/ no paste for 1 min then toss it), bandaids and socks, baseball to carry with me if my legs were cramping/tight to roll them while i walked (didn't use), and a water bottle with Infinit in case i was tired of gatorade on the run course
