Subject: Need a kick in the butt....
Hey,
So I am a beginner triathlete - been training off and on for about 5 months now. I am training for a sprint in Sept. I have a horrible habit of getting into a great routine of training and then, hitting a few scheduling conflicts and falling out of my routine.
This happened most recently about 2 weeks ago. I recently moved and on top of that came several changes to my schedule. I am now working 2 jobs, starting training for a third, which will replace one in a few days, taking a class and trying to get some training time in.
I have tried getting up in the morning for am training, but can't get myself out of bed, and by the time I get home it's 9 pm.
Obviously not much I can do about scheduling conflicts and being lazy in the morning, but I'm wondering how everyone balances lives with training. I'm sure it is a constant balancing act and motivating yourself daily.
 Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Speaking just for myself. I work out best in the morning. The Y I train at opens at 5:30 M-,F 7 on Sat, and 11 on Sundays. We have a Spin class that starts at 5:45 M-W-F.
I teach High school and this is a great way for me to jstart my day to deal with teenagers.
At first it was very difficult, dragging myself out of bed at that ungodly hour, but after about 2 weeks I really started to look forward to it, and miss it on the days I couldn't go.
The other thing is that it is just to easy to blow right by it on the way home form work with the "I don't have time", excuse

Hope this helps

H.T.F.U. and get up in the morning. Yes, it sucks. It's going to suck big time for a month or so. Eventually, your body and mind will get used to it. It ain't a easy thing, triathlon. Suck it up and make the sacrifice. (Hey, you asked for a kick in the butt.)

You answered your own question with the key word - BALANCE.

If this is something you want to do, you'll do it.  HTFU and get motivated.

Good luck.

Here's a suggestion.  Stop whining and get your lazy a** out of bed at 4:00 in the morning like everyone else busting their but training.  You think your the only one with a job?  Waa, I don't get home til 9.  I'm too tired.  Don't be that person.

Honestly, it is tough, but I look forward to working out and am obsessed about it like most of the people here. I've grown accustomed to sleeping very little and waking up at 4 in the morning like alot of people with families training.  You'll get used to it.

...you asked for it

I'm not a morning person either, if you let me I'll sleep till 11am or noon. After I decided to train for my first triathlon I noticed some problems, I couldn't fit a lot of training into the evening because that's important time I want to have with my girlfriend. To create my balance I had to make a decision, HTFU, and get up at 4:30 or 5:00 in the morning to go swim for an hour and a half before work so I could be free afterwords.

I hate it when people say "I don't have time", because it's always a lie. Everyone has time, they just choose to make other things a priority. There are many things that will have a higher priority than training, like spending time with family or being able to show up to work on time. You may have to give something else up to make time for training, it could be sleeping in, it could mean missing out on something social, or a favorite TV show, that's a decision you will need to make. As soon as you make your training a priority you will find plenty of time.

Also, especially in the morning, training with friends is a great motivator. You expect them to be there with you and they expect the same from you, so you become accountable to show up.

Another good motivator is money. For every morning you plan to train and you can't get yourself out of bed, you send me $20. I'd be happy to implement this plan with you, and trust me, it works! =)

Just go to youtube and type in "Chopper Reid" in the search bar.  It should be the first video to come up.  Chopper will let you know what the "H" stands for....

Yes, it sucks fitting it in at times, but if you do it long enough it becomes your lifestyle and not something you have to dread.  Once you get to that point you will look forward to your workouts and get pissed when you have to miss one.  HTFU!

Some people are good starters and poor finishers. Fortunately, triathlon training is on-going so you really don't have the finish part to worry about. Stick with it. It's easy to give it up when you haven't invested much. Once you get 3 or 4 solid months of training in, you'll be less likely to pi$$ it away.

Oh, and another vote for HTFU. Or, maybe this sport is not for you. But, more than likely you're just being a candy@$$.

Tough love...
