Voted by Yahoo travel as #1. Just had some tonight. It is addicting! Passed on the Brambleberry Crisp in favor of the Brown Butter Almond Crisp (if I knew how to post pics I would show you).

The best thing I can compare this to is another Ohio based ice cream in Graeter's (#6 on the list). Jeni's is better!

#'s 1 and 6 are based in Ohio. That and we will decide the election! What say you?

God... I'm REALLY hungry now. I have been on a full blown binge for a couple months now. We have Blue Bell here and usually it's B&J Cookie Dough or Cherry Garcia. I was looking at time off for rehab, but now I see one of the nation's best in Denver, I must go on one last run....

Personally, I don't think fashionable is the best. I prefer my home made or the Clemson University AG department ice cream (at least back in the day).

Ok, go on, spin yourselves into a tizz. When you're done, land on:

Simple. No mocha-scotch-praline-sprinkle flavor.  Just the frigging Best Ice Cream Out There.

Period. For more than 100 years.

i feel like doing a best ice cream road trip now.  yum.

i am biased, but dave&andy's in pittsburgh has really fantastic ice cream, and homemade waffle cones.  you could smell them from my apartment in college

also, as much as penn state sucks, peachy paterno (wonder if they got rid of that flavor?) at the penn state creamery is TO DIE FOR.

Jeni's rocks - especially all of the unique flavor combos they come up with, but I think it pales in comparison to Honey Hut (local to Cleveland area)

We usually make a stop over here http://youngsdairy.com/ when we're back in Ohio.  It's gotten a lot bigger and more commercialized in the past 20 years.

Two of my favorites made it onto the list--Graeters and Brooklyn Farmacy. Brooklyn Farm also makes a red velvet Twinkie that's really good.

The original store is still right around the corner from my house, on State Rd

They now have locations in Solon, Strongsvile, Brecksville, and down at Edgewater Beach: http://honeyhut.com/locations.asp

Ted Drews is soft serve custard in STL.  It's been featured on FoodTV a bit, voted best in STL for about 50 years counting, and is a MUST DO if you visit.  I always need to make a Drews run every time I go back home to visit, if not 2-3 runs.

I don't even normally like ice cream (lactose intolerant, don't like sweets much) but if anybody ever comes to Saigon, check out Fanny Ice Cream. Several branches, one near Saigon Center, in an old French colonial house. Best flavors include dark chocolate, raspberry sorbet, banana sorbet, pistachio, coconut, young rice (really, it's good), cinnamon, and ginger, or any combo thereof. Plus they have excellent (unsweetened, strong enough to revive you after an IM) hot and iced Vietnamese coffee to wash it down with.  Oink! Worth getting an upset stomach for! First Friday of each month is all-you-can-eat night--I've never done it as I can't eat my money's worth; have tried to take visitors and lines are a block long.

I've got an ice cream maker, so I make ice cream/frozen yogurt a lot. Even vanilla is way better than store bought any flavour.

I don't think I've ever picked a favorite ice cream.

Any ice cream just puts my brain in a happy-mode...

I ended up buying one of those counter top versions you only make a quart or so at a time.  I can make some versions that are better than anything from the stores.  But it just takes work and may even be more expensive than just buying it.

Yeah, it may be, but fresh ice cream with not a lot of sugar is just so good.

As an aside, my BIL is allergic to nuts and can only eat a few brands of ice cream that wrap their cardboard container inside plastic, so the ice cream maker is perfect when he comes over for dinner as well.

Sometimes I'm lazy and just buy yogurt and dump it in there and don't do anything else. Half an hour later, it's pretty good frozen yogurt.
