Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hi there, I'm training for my first IM and I am doing a ton of reading about everything I can. One area that I keep having problems with is nutrition. I keep on reading that people have a lot of success with Infinit. I read that you can rely completely on this and not have to take any other nutrition. Can someone fill me in on this product and how it is possible to reply completely on this without the need for extras? Why is it so good? Any info would be great! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I found that Infinit with a few gels is all I need for a long ride. Infinit to hyrdrate is all I need for long runs (I also take some on a fuel belt, too if it's a real long run). I found this pretty successful. You should check their web site, customer service is pretty good. It's the only fluid I use. Can't tell why, just works for me. Edited by randym 2009-07-01 2:24 PM |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I shifted to only liquid nutrition during long rides and runs and my races. I started using Infinit and that is all I take in. I am of the school of thought of replenish instead of replace the calories you use, so I only take in about 280 calories per hour. That translates into one bottle per hour... Takes all the guesswork out of it when I am on the bike. The run is great -- I pound a concentrated version and follow with a couple of cups of water at aid stations. It all works out without any GI issues. Mike Edited by Rollin' Thunder 2009-07-01 2:30 PM |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Infinit is a customizable sports/nutrition drink. It's good because you can get as many calories/sodium/protein/etc. you need in each serving. I really liked it during IM training, because I could put 4 hours with of servings into 1 water bottle. I would switch between Infinit one hour and something else another hour. I could easily pack enough calories on my bike for a 6-hour ride without stopping. Personally though, I didn't want to drink it hour after hour. My stomach would have gotten sloshy from all the liquids... and I just didn't care for the taste of it. So every other hour worked great. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() So far i love Infinit. I have had pretty bad gastric problems with different hydration/nutrition combinations. I would have problems on the run because of cramping, bloating, gas.... so i called Infinit and they created two formulas for me. One for the bike and one for the run. Each formula supplies all I need in terms of calories, electrolytes, etc... Each bottle is designed to last me an hour so it is very easy to keep track of my nutrition. If it is not a super hot day the bottle also covers my hydration. If it is hot i will supplement with water at aid stations during races. I highly recommend calling them and having them design your mix. My longest ride so far using infinit is 4 hours and my longest run to date is 2 hours. No problems so far. |

If you are making a super concentrate (4hr serving) in one bottle, you then have another bottle of water/something and this serves you for 6 hours? I understand that you are getting enough nutrition but surely you are no where close to taking on enough fluid for 6 hours. How many bottles do you carry on your bike? |

Infinit should be used as nutrition ONLY. Not as hydration. I drink water with it as well. But I have to refill the water bottle/Camelbak. I was on a road bike... on the frame I carried the Infinit bottle and a water bottle, and I had a Camelbak on as well. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I like the customization piece, and I typically concentrate mine at about 3 hours. Like mentioned, it's not hydration, when concentrated like that, I'll take a couple of sips every 20 minutes, and then take in some water. I have found I like doing 20 min/20 min Infinit and then a Gu on the hour. I could go the whole hour with Infinit, but I've found I like the switch up a little bit. I don't use it on the run right now, just the bike. It is so much easier than carrying tons of solid food or a gazillion Gu's. One of my servings (an hours worth) is 274 calories (my Ironman blend) and I do not get hungry if I properly take in my nutrition, nor have I bonked or felt like I started getting weak when I've taken it in properly (with water). The guys there are pretty user friendly too, so feel free to pick up the phone and talk to them, they WILL help you out!! I had three friends do IMCdA two weeks ago, and they all used Inifint (customized blend) and did really well on the nutrition portion of their bike. I will be using it IMFL. |

For a HIM, there WILL BE aid stations on the bike (if there isn't, I'd wonder about the race director). So you don't need to carry all of the water for those 56 miles. I have an aero bottle, and for my HIM at the end of last year I had the aero full, one nutrition bottle on the downtube, and I picked up and refilled my aero bottle at every aid station. You don't have to carry all the water with you, that's what aid stations are for. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been experimenting with Infinit this year for my IM. Last year I lived off the course and did fine for the HIM distance and trail marathon and don't normally have any GI issues. While I don't need to eat Clif bars or gels as often, Infinit is not enough for me and I still need solid food on long rides, but of course I like to eat and enjoy a change from just liquid. It works way better for me then Gatorade Endurance or any other liquids have, where I'd need more bars and gels to survive, so I have been able to cut back on some of the food on the bike. I've been using concentrated bottles with water in my camel bak for both long bikes and runs (added amphipod holder/bottles to my fanny pack style camelbak). While running Infinit has been working just fine and on the bike I'll continue to eat. Of course the experiment continues and I need to place another order real soon. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Infinit will work fine for hydration as well, as long as you don't make a concentrated mix. For my blend, 2 scoops per 20 oz bottle per hour is all the hydration and nutrition I need for a long ride. I tested this out a few weeks ago. I did a four hour ride in hills, 72 miles, with a heat index of 107 degrees in florida. I did drink some H20 at the half way point, but had no issues with hydration or bonking just sticking to a bottle an hour of my blend. This is so easy to monitor, all i do is take a sip every few minutes and I am good to go. I carry two bottles behind my seat and one on my aero bars. I mixed up two additional bottles on the road. At my upcoming IM I will have 3 hours of hydration/nutrition on the bike and will set up an additional 3 bottles in a special needs bag at mile 56. If it is a hot humid day i will supplement with water at the aid stations. It works for me... For the run i will carry 32oz of a concentrated mix using a fuel belt. I will sip on the infinite for nutrition and drink water at the aid stations. I will carry two hours of nutrition on me and reload my bottles at special needs. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() i completed my first HIM last weekend. i tried hammer nutrition, and i am sold. a concentrated dose (3x) in 1 bottle. i tried to take a swig every 10 miles and then chased it with h2o (grabbed a 2nd bottle on the course). finished the bottle a mile or two before T2, i had no problems with digestion, and also didn't have to carry 3-4 or even 5 water bottles on the course (nothing defeats the point of a 17# bike like carrying 4#s of water) ive heard of ppl doing the same deal for IMs, and having a second bottle stashed in their special needs bag |

I like KSH will triple mix my infinit in one bottle and chase it with some water while riding. If I am doing a short ride 2 hours or less I will just mix 1 serving of infinit and add water and just use that over the ride, so I get lots of water with a few cals thrown in... |

Member![]() ![]() | ![]() Could someone please explain the idea of nutrition vs. hydration? How much infinit should I be using considering I'm doing an Olympic race? I was planning on ordering the pre-made Ironman formula at the suggestion of one of my coaches. Do you use it on every training run and ride? Do you still drink water in addition to infinit? Do you still use gels? Thanks in advance. |

Hmmm.....I was originally under the impression that any liquid you took in that had calories in it, be it Infinit or other, was NOT to be counted in your total fluid intake. But I have since abandoned that way of thinking. I use a "homemade" form of energy drink. I mix up one hour bottles with about 260 calories and this is ALL I take in on a long ride. Food and hydration in one easy step. I come off the bike well hydrated, with energy to spare and able to do my brick runs with ease. Just what works for me! |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I scanned through the replies here and didn't see this point mentioned, so if it's a repeat, I apologize.... One other thing I like about Infinit is that you can customize the flavoring as well. If you want to be able to concentrate your formula (i.e., mix up a bottle with enough nutrition to last several hours), then you can turn the flavor setting way down so that you can still actually drink it! If you tried mixing a bottle of, say, Cytomax or Accelerade concentrated to 700 calories - there's no way coud drink it! (at least I couldn't!!) At higher concentrations, I definitely supplement the Infinit with water. |

I drink ONLY Gatorade Endurance on the bike with no water. I mix it at regular strength and have approximately 25 ozs per hour, with a gel at :30 and then every hour after. I have trained on this plan for months including two IM distance rides and two HIMs and it works perfectly. I don't have to take salt supplements or eat any solids. I agree with Helen that getting nutrition/hydration in one step is so much simpler. You just need to know the grams of carbs your body can process per hour without causing GI distress. |
