uhhh is it jargon specific to your industry?  is the product in pairs - twenty couples?  are they thermocouples???

Then again, it was directed to a person whom just used the phrase "production qual phase."  Perhaps if YOU used real words  your staff might feel the need to do the same...

Maybe they are messing with you.  Do you have hair that points up on either side of your head? An engineer employee with a curly tie? Another always holding a coffee cup?  'Cause this kind of scenario sounds really familiar to me....like I experience an example every morning....

You would not believe how many resumes I receive with "text speak" in the body of the mail.

"I'd like to apply for a pos at ur company".

I'm not joking.  I used to write them back and admonish them on their grammar.  Now I just delete them.

It was an attempt at a light hearted inquiry, I didn't ask the internet, that would be silly! I asked the gentlefolk and scholars, and all round good guys of CoJ.  Why shouldn't I expect sensible answers?

I could call him up now though I suppose, it's only 4.am where he is so that could work :-)

One more reason I am very proud of my kids. They have NEVER used text speak in a text or e-mail. There are no "LOL"s or "BRB". And if they misspell something in a text or IM, they immediately send the corrected word (as in "I went to hte park"..."the"). So even virtual conversations with them are like conversations with a fully formed adult human person with an actual working brain.

They've completed around 20.   It means that he lost count around 12-teen and had to give you an approximation.

That's where the confusion is, he was using the metric system!!!

I've made this s rule in our household as well.  Some abbreviations are allowed for longer words but for the most part you type as if you were speaking.

See - that's the difference between you and me. I don't have to tell people how to act...(I'm trying to preserve the universe, you know. If we agree too much, who knows what will happen!!!)

Maybe mine would have chosen to as well.  I figured I'd lay down the law so there was no confusion.

I'm perfectly OK with telling people how they should act.  I'm preparing for the role of benevolent dictator.
