My goggles (on my second pair) never seem to get a good seal. It is soooo frustrating and it interrupts my training to have to stop ever other lap and clear the flood. Is there some super secret method of securing the goggles to one's face to obtain a total aquatic shut out?

Please share your sage wisdom with me! I am all ears - and red, chlorine filled eyes.

brands that fit well? (i've had adidias and tyr so far)
perhaps a large plexiglass bubble for my head?

Thanks in advance!

Trial and error I think is how it works. YOu just have to find a brand that fits and a model that fits. I have an expensive pair of speedo's and a cheap pair or walmart type goggles, and the cheap ones work better. Good goggles= good fit in my opinion. They could cost a million bucks, and have night vision, but if they don't fit, forget it.

I know thats not much help, other than the solidarity of bad fitting goggles.

I have a rather small head and have had very good luck with the Speedo Vanquisher.  It comes with 4 different bridge pieces so that you can get the goggles just the right distance apart.  Before that I used the Kaiman Jr.  They were nice but I didn't like the way the lenses were and the TYR X-Sight Lite were also good for me.  Still use the TYR, but they are clear and I prefer the mirrored lenses better.  The vanquisher is my all time favorite though.

Amen...I was in the same boat...leaky, leaky, leaky Tyr goggles.  I popped into All3Sports one day, told the smart-looking sales dude what I needed, and he immediately had me try on virtually every tester on display, specifically looking for suction to face WITHOUT use of straps...nothing seemed to work...then he pulled out the AquaSphere Seal XP's.  Magic - they "sealed" to my face and my first swim was bliss.  I could actually concentrate on swimming multiple laps vs figuring out how not to drown because of the free-flowing nature of the other pair...

Good luck.

Goggles leaking are a royal pain, however the fix is not always a new pair of goggles.  If you have the strap too tight it can cause the goggles to leak, if they are too loose they will leak.

When you shop for your goggles open the pack, most will open without destroyng the package, and try them on.  You can generally tell if they are going to work.

The last paid I purchased I got at Walmart, and they work great.  But I had to try several pairs before finding one that seemed likely, and even then I had to switch bridge parts before they felt good.

I have a small narrow face like that of a Chihuahua. I find women's goggles actually fit me better. If you have a smallish face try women's specific goggles.

Goggles are especially good if you were contacts. Didn't know that they will leak if they are too tight - interesting.....

agree 100% They used to sell them at Walmart YEARS ago for about $10 then it seems they became popular with triathletes and I can never find them at Walmart. I just picked up some online, I think they were around $26

As a couple of people have mentioned, you need to go to a shop that has a large selection of goggles. If they have a large selection, they likely will have test models of each for you to try, if not, then start opening packages. Try on every goggle WITHOUT the strap. The pair that stays on your face the longest is the right pair for you. Buy one pair, try them at the pool, if they work, go back and buy a couple more pair.

When all else fails, get some "swedes".

They're hard plastic lenses that come as a "kit" that you assemble. They're dirt cheap and look like they would be uncomfortable as hell, but work remarkably well. They fit almost everyone.

I have a small head as well and went through pair after pair after pair. I have children's size frames for my reading glasses and it finally clicked to try junior size goggles. I go with the speedo vanquisher jrs. They fit awesome, last a long time, and aren't very expensive ($13-15).

I also second that if they stay on your face without the strap they will probably be a good fit.

Good luck!!

Just as a comment on Aquasphere, they don't work for everyone.  I've tried them and they leak for me.

I have the best luck with goggles that are SMALL.  Some speedo/tyr types (usually the racing goggles) or swedes work best for my face.

Try on: put them on your face, if you can seal them and they stay on w/out the strap they fit.  Think of the strap as something just to keep them on your face, not to stop them from leaking.  If they leak, tightening the strap usually helps nothing except the attractive goggle marks around your eyes.

I have no suggestions as I know goggles are like saddles, just need to try alot of them until you find one that fits.

But...that title has to be one of the better ones I've seen in a while.

Like Cadreamer I have had luck with smaller framed goggles. I've tried the aquaspheres and they leaked for me.  The current pair I'm using are actually my wife's goggles.  They got left in my gym back one morning and I decided to try them and they are the best fitting goggles I've come across so now my wife isn't getting them back!  Good thing they are a generic unisex color!

So you never know until you try a pair how they will fit.  Like others have said keep trying different goggles until you find that pair that fit perfect.

I had a lot of problems finding goggles to fit my face properly.  I finally tried Lane4 Revolutions and they are absolutely amazing.  Here's a link if you want to check them out.  I found them at a local Dick's Sporting Goods.

I've got quite a collection of goggles that I have accumulated over this past summer. I started out with 2 pairs of AquaSphere Kaimen's..one in clear, the other in smoke. Both worked fairly well..aside from fogging and scratches. I reserve them as my "beater" goggles.

The next pair I got were by Ironman. They actually are a "copycat" version of the AquaSphere XP Seal mask-type goggle. I wore those for my first OWS (an OLY tri) and they worked extremely well...no fogging, no leaks. My only regret is not getting them in the smoked lens...I bought the clear and could really have used smoked due to the blinding sun that morning.

I also ordered online from Trisports.com, a pair of the Lady Kaimen's in smoke. Those have been my standby training goggle. Perfect fit, and no leaks.

On a whim, I also picked up a pair of the Barracuda Triton wire-frame goggles. They're pricey, and initially I had problems with leaking. But after I adjusted the straps for a snugger fit, the leaking stopped and I now consider them to be a decent goggle.
