Extreme Veteran  596   Worcester, MA |  Subject: Finish Line tapeWhat happened to the Tape at IMLP? I think it was gone on the other races I watched too? What's the deal? Anyone know anyone who can get us answer? Any interested in getting a letter writing campaign to get it back? |

I do know from watching that the volunteers work hard and trying to make sure everyone or close to it runs through the tap. I so wouldn't want that job- that would be a lot of work! |

At IMFL '08 my volunteer job was finish line tape and we worked hard to get it up for as many finishers as possible. Maybe they decided it was too much of a liability? There were times we had to be careful not to trip people... |

I was so tired when I finished that if there was finish line tape I may have bounced backward off it. Now the 2 volunteers who caugtht me at the finish I would've very much missed. |

Same reasons as stated above, folks run off with it, get tangled up with it,and it is challenging for volunteers. I'm not sure I'll miss it as you don't really run through it, but it was dropped. Honestly just being done and finishing 140.6 is amazing....I didn't even see the tape other than in my finish line video. |

What pissed my wife off is that they didn't say "Rob Foster, you are an Ironman!" I heard the guy say my name and where I was from, but that was it. My wife wrote "Rob Foster is an Ironman" on the back window of our van with shoe polish and the stuff won't come off. We've driven up through Quebec and over to Niagara Falls, down to Philly through all kinds of rain and the rear wiper hasn't even made a dent in it. I guess it will make it all the way back to Florida with us. I have gotten some honks and thumbs up along the way which is sort of cool. |

Yea, BAMBAM66 wrote that on our car after I finished and I got some honks and a lot of people coming up to me when we stopped (especially since I had my arm in a sling). One lady came up, tapped on the window (I was in the driver's seat) and asked to take my picture because she saw the graffiti. As to the OP, there was no tape when I crossed at IMCdA this year. I'm OK with it going away as it seemed a little cheesy, but I'm not taking anything away from those who have video "breaking the tape" from years past. |

Can't say I was expecting that...must really be an iron distance expectation thing I just wasn't aware of if they even make that effort at an independent race. |
