If you go sockless...be sure to test drive 1st. I go sockless, but only after making sure i won't get blisters!

What kind of time advantage can you expect in the transition?

If you wont get blisters or be uncomfortable i say go for it. I also think it depends a lot on your goal. If those 10 seconds are to put you on the podium...then id say again..go for it.  If this is a fun race to challenge yourself and see what you are capable of with no shot of placing...why not go with sock??

I am always striving to get faster and place in my Sprints and with that in mind I have done ALL my training with no socks (even my long runs).  This was uncomfortable at the beginning but now my feet have developed callouses and it is painless.  For me it takes that one extra element out of my T2 thus making it much quicker that T1.  I'd say go no socks but make sure you train with no socks or you will be sorry during your race.

Go ahead, put socks on wet feet.

Then do what the vast majority of us do and go sockless for the bike and then consider running sockless just because it's easier and one less thing you have to bend over to do during transition.

I even went sockless in my HIM last weekend.  The less I have to worry about in transition the better.

I ride sockless, run with socks.

If you have tri shoes, riding sockless should be totally comfortable, but try it in training first. I would not recommend running sockless unless you've tried it training and know you won't blister easily. Also, don't "test" sockless running too close to race day, because you don't want to get a blister and have to deal with it on race day. Socks only take a few seconds to put on and you only do it once.

I go sockless for both bike and run but plan to wear socks for my HIM. The time in transition wont bug me as much. I take pride in my very fast transitions in sprints. I highly recommend using Body Glide on your feet and run/bike alot before a race week to get your feet used to it. My first run resulted in multiple blisters. Then I tried Body Glide and no more trouble. So for your answer of why? Faster transition time and it satisfies that tough "real" triathlete need to abuse your body in ine more way.

Should I?  No.  I don't need them, and it's faster and simpler that way, for me.  Should other people?  Don't know.  I sometimes wear them in training, though honestly I don't quite know why.

I can ride a bick sockless with no problem and was hoping to go sockless for my next race in a week but I tried it on the treadmill this morning and got a blister on the inside of my left heel.  Should I put body glide in that spot?  It was obviously rubbing.  I stopped at 2 miles and put a sock on that foot, my right foot was fine.

So I'm a newbie, but I do socks... I've practiced putting them on wet feet, takes me maybe at most 10 seconds (for both!) which to me is worth it knowing I won't be getting blisters later on.  Love my dry fit socks!

I wear socks b/c
1. my feet blister too easily if I don't
2. I have a pair that slip on VERY easily when my feet are wet in T1.  It doesn't take me 5 seconds to put them on.
3. I doubt I'll ever be in a race where I'm worried about 5-10 seconds making a difference - I'm not fast enough to podium.

Something that has helped me running & biking sockless is lubing the heel cup & rim of my shoes as well as my heel and ankle. I use Sports Slick, but have had successs with Body Glide. I also agree this should be done well in advance of any race to see where you're at with it. Good luck.

I go with the socks because my feet blister really easily and not just your regular blisters, the nasty blood blisters. My reasoning is that the couple of extra seconds it will take me in transition to put on my socks (I wear moisture wicking socks by Asics) is well worth it.

Put the body glide anywhere you get hot spots. I usally put it all over my feet and toes. i hate blisters

when do you put body glide on? before the race? wouldn't it wear off by the time you get to the run?

I never use socks for Sprint and Olympics...and...never get blister either...Lucky me...!!!...but...everybody is different...and...usually put body glide before the Race...

Why??? Well...in my particular case...I don't lose time in my Transitions times...fast transitions...and...I'm very competitive...

I Body Glide the shoes, not the feet. Usually all over the heel and ankle area, plus I shove some down near the toes. I do it the night before the race. (That's also when I put in the elastic laces, since I hate training with those things but don't mind them for a short race.)

No. I never wear socks on the bike ever, unless it is very cold out. For straight running I always wear socks, I have never worn at the sprint distance, and my last HIM in the fall I can not remember if I did or not. When I do not, I prelube the shoe with bodyglide and baby powder to help dry my feet as they go in.

I'm a newbie. I just tried running sockless this past week. First my long run on Monday. I could feel a hot spot developing on my right foot at the end of the run.
Then again on Friday, for my short run. No problems. I've been riding my bike sockless too, but I don't know how much sweating on the bike will affect my run.
Since my training schedule has called for 2 runs a week, I'm hoping my feet will harden up enough before my first sprint in a couple of weeks.
Oh, and I've been doing runs with a pair of socks in my fuel belts other bottle holder (its an intruder model). Haven't needed them yet.

baby power in my sneakers....shoes slips right on and the powder eats up moisture...which I think helps with the blisters.

I think it no socks saves a ton of time.  keep in mind a ton of time is seconds in transitions.

today, those seconds allowed me to finish 1 spot ahead as I the guy behind me was 15 seconds, but my T1/2 beat him by over 40.  In other words, he was faster than me on the course......

time in transition is "free time."  easiest time to shave.  the more you eliminate from transitions, the faster you will be

so long answer, no socks.

of course, try it on a brick and see what you think.
