Size DOES matter.  The size of the room matters...not the tv.

Here is to figure out which size tv is best for the room.

It's not the size, it's how you use it.

That being said, I've become a big fan of Vizio TV's.  Check out Sams club, "their prices are insane"...

x 1,000!!!

You don't want to overpower a room.

I have always found that Panasonic TVs have the best combination of picture and reliability.  They've been the #1 problem-free manufacturer for years.  'tuwood' is exactly right about Vizio.  They used to make LCD monitors for computers to be re-badged and simply got into the TV market themselves.  Good stuff at very low prices.  I am leary of Sony.  Over-priced and you can run into a technical limitation that they like to do as in, "this TV only works with a Sony Blu Ray".  They sometimes try to get you to go all Sony or block it.

If you can control lighting (ie, no skylights and your windows have curtains) I'd get a big plasma screen. If there's lots of ambient light, get an LCD. More likely to be on clearance since the LEDs are moving in - and there's not much difference between those two.

No matter how big you buy, HD is 1920x1080 - so a huge tv up close can look bad. I like the 12 inches of TV for every 3 feet or so you sit away from it. So 9 feet away, 36-40 inch tv and so on.

Whatever you get, PLEASE get an APC or some other reliable, heavy-duty surge suppressor/backups electrical power device.  It's worth the investment.

I picked up a Vizio at wally the day of the 2010 Super Bowl (always a good time for TV sales).  Still sharp and crisp picture 2.5 years and 3000 miles of moving later

As I understand it, Vizio is Sony re-branded for Sam's Club.  So, should always be a decent TV.

I prefer LG's, however.

As for size... yes, it matters.  The room size and the distance you will be at when viewing it determines the proper size screen.

nope.  Vizio is an independent company based in Irvine, CA.  However, there is a company in Taiwan that makes some of their stuff - TV's, PC's, speakers, I don't know.

We've got 4 Vizio's throughout the house.  The oldest is a 54" over the fireplace in the livingroom that's 8 or 9 years old.  I swear the thing weight 500 lbs. but it still works as good as the day we bought it.  lol

Plasma.

Absolutely, positively.

However, plasmas work better in a darker environment usually. There can be some glare with too much light but that's getting pretty picky. Also, they're excellent for sports and action movies.

I have a 46 inch 2009 Panny plasma..... pic is great.

Anyone have a Pioneer Kuro ? Still the holy grail of tv's. A few are getting closer to dethroning it, but not yet. The pic on the Kuros is insanely good. Just ridiculous good.

This^^ If you've ever seen a Samsung and a Vizio side by side there is no comparison. Vizio picture quality wins.

Not interested in Plasma since the Kuro is not sold anymore.  I built my room for a 92" front projector years agao.  However during the constructon my wife announced she was pregent.  The front projector became a 55" RPTV that is now ready for the trash.

I did like the 64" Panasonic plasma yesterday, but I am going LED.  So today it's going to be 65" Samsung or 70" Sharp.  I guess it will come down to price.  I still need to buy a mount and Blu-Ray player.

This. When our 60" got hit by a power surge I upgraded to a 70".  After a few days I got tired of moving my head side to side to see the screen.  Downgraded back to a 60".  The room was just too small.

I have a 46" Samsung and love it, also a blu ray player through Samsung and they sync up together, just a cool feature. In my mancave I have a 27" Hanspree and it has an amazing picture for an unknown brand.

We bought the 70" Sharp a couple of months ago, so far so good.  I have a smaller Samsung and have had equally good luck with that brand.

I was advised to go with the 240hz over the 120hz at that size and I think it was a good choice.  Picture is pretty crisp.
