Today, I managed to average 17.2 mph on my bike!  I'm sure to most of you, this does not seem like much of an accomplishment, but the bike has been my weak point since I began, and has been a very slow process to see improvement.  I've had a short term goal listed to avg. 16.5 and hoped that would happen sometime this year.  I just blew 16.5 out of the water!  I love these days! I had to share with BT because no one else really cares/understands if I gain 1mph on the bike.  Anyone else have any recent accomplishments, big or small?  It's fun to brag share.

I did a sub 2 minute 100m in the pool today for the first time!  I faded near the end, and was spent when I hit the wall (and needed a bit longer than usual rest), but I did it, and I'm proud of myself.  Even if I am still the slowest swimmer in the pool...

congrats on the improvement in mph, while it may not seem fast overall getting faster is getting faster and that is what training is for.

Way to go!  I'm hoping to hit 17mph before this year is over.  This is my first year cycling and looking back over my logs from the past few months I'm amazed at how far I've come.  Started at 12.5mph over a distance of about 12 miles.  Now I can hold a little over 16mph over 30 miles.  I'd be thrilled with 17.2!

Congratulations!!  Always good to see hard work paying off.

As for me, last season I panicked in all of my OWS swims, save one, and did them all backstroke, finishing as low as 211/213 in my AG, and this year, have finished two 2-mile OWS races, no panicking, all freestyle, in the MOP.

Congrats!  Every step forward is fun!  I have been at this a while but finally broke through the sub-30 minute barrier on my five mile run this AM. Been a long time waiting for that.

Last week, I swam 1500m for the first time and came in around 46 minutes.  Today, I felt much better during the swim and came in at 40:17!  I know my technique is seriously flawed, and I wish I had the time/$$ for a coach, but I have been very happy with the improvement so far!  Plus, I did front crawl for the whole distance (last year, I couldn't even do front crawl for a full 750m).

x 2 on your comment about posting accomplishments on here.  I don't know anyone (in person) who competes in Triathlons, so it's hard to relate when I see improvements.  I'm glad I stumbled across this site!  Great feedback, tips, support, and encouragement!

Congratulations on the progress. I absolutely know what you mean when you see the times some of these folks can do.

I have always hated running and I have always blamed it on my stocky body type.  I'm 5'10, 220.  Something has been going on with me lately when it comes to the run.  I have to admit that I'm starting to enjoy it.  My goal is to do 10 min miles when I do my 1st try (OLY) in Sept.  This week I ran an 11:11/min mile for 6 miles on Monday and followed it up with a 10:20 min/mile for 3 miles Tuesday night.  It's a bit exciting to start to like what I originally considered my weakest link.

Nice job!

I'm sitting here feeling sorry for myself for being injured in my iron distance race over the weekend...but it made me remember a perverse accomplishment I had...hit sub-10:00/mile while walking the last part of the run on the IM (image from my race report):

Great job! Isn't it great when you make huge strides! That's a really nice leap for your bike average!

Lately I have become a runner. I use to run a 10-11 minute mile... and at my last tri I ran a 8:15 mm.

I was a solid MOPer and placing around 10th in my AG... I missed 3rd by 4 seconds at my last tri. It was SHOCKING!

I biked 11.5 miles, then ran/walked 2 miles on Sunday at a 9:44 pace and then ran/walked 2 miles on Monday and was able to do a 2300 yard swim today with some breaststroke. No post-exercise knee pain whatsoever.  If you'd asked me to do all of this 2 months ago I would have just laughed and cried.  I really am healing. Surprised

Fixed that for you!  Brag away, you've achieved your goal (and then some) and that should be a MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENT!!

Nice job on the bike!!  I too have a goal of averaging 16.5...for a lot of rides in my area this is considered intermediate(16-18mph average) and I could feel confident going on some of the harder rides.  I am averaging around 14-16 now depending on how hilly the route. I am also pleased my mile swim was 40 mins for a bit and now I have routinely been sub 38mins for the last few workouts  Little improvements help motivate more efforts...and it's true, only other runners/triathletes can appreciate it.

Awesome!  And you SHOULD be proud - I would kill to hit those speeds.  I'm just trying to keep it at 15 mph for 12 miles on my mountain bike.  (My tri buddy calls it "The Beast.")  Can't wait until my 1.5" slicks come in - that should help.

And my big accomplishment this week was swimming 400 meters (open water with no wetsuit), as I mentioned in my own bragging thread. :-)

Oh yeah, and last night I picked up my first wetsuit - the LTS was having a 25% off sale.  I wish I had videotaped me trying to get into it for the first time.  Let's just say it took me so long and so much effort that it's a good thing I bought it because it was drenched in my sweat.  Will definitely have to practice getting in and out of it.

OP SWEET!!! 17.2 mph!
2nd poster sub 2 minutes - nother great milestone!

All of the posters - congratulations on your improvements.

In '09 I finally was able to get 30 reps on the bench at 130lbs (i weigh 143)

Not acomplished yet:
I also was hoping to be above 22 mph in sprint tri's - this will hopefully be a reality Aug 30th.
It would be really cool if I could also go sub-19 in the same sprint tri.

I had a big accomplishment in my first tri a few weeks ago - the first time I had clocked under 10 minute miles on the run! My next goal is to be able to hold sub 10-minute miles during my longer runs.

Averaging in the high 8:XX/mile for a race (shorter distances) is now considered a "crappy" race for me

Congratulations. Now it's time to set another goal.

It's nice to accomplish goals. My next one is set for 2.5 weeks from now. I hope to do a 500m TT in under 39 seconds.

I know what you mean about "normal" people not caring or understanding about such milestones. We care and understand. Way to go!!

My recent breakthrough was cracking the 20 mph mark. I did a pre-race ride of a 14.5 mile sprint course I was doing at 20.2 mph. I was thrilled. Came back later that week and crushed it with a 20.4 mph average for the race.

It is these little things that really keep you going (at least me).  I have accomplished several goals I have set for myself this year, some more important than others.  The least important, though, is the one that makes me smile.  I managed to swim a timed 28.00 50 free the other day (why couldn't I squeeze another .01 out?).  And that was with baggy shorts (it was an impromptu thing) and a reasonably poor turn.  I am aiming for 26.XX by the end of the year.

Wow... great job!  I think this is why I fell in love with this type of fitness.  Because you continue to break through all of those imaginary barriers of what you thought you could never do, BUT YOU CAN!

I was a chunky couch potato less than a year ago.  Since then I have lost 25 pounds and have gone from Couch to 5K to Triathlon!  I've never been athletic in my life, not even in high school.  Never enjoyed doing exercise before; it was always a chore.  Running completely changed that.  Now I can't WAIT to workout!

Swimming, and biking, and running, OH MY!!!

It's all good.  And I'm lovin it!!!

Progress is awesome!!!  Hard work does pay off!!!  We all have goals, and it is great to see when a fellow competitor meets and sxceeds those goals!!

Congrats!!

I had/have too many to list, but i have gotten almost all of them, the next being a Sub 2:30 Olympic, i did my first Oly ever in 2:40, i need to improve my running....more, lol.

The great thing about goals is they never end!!

Heehee...ever since I took up triathlon training, I joke that I want to swim like Phelps, bike like Armstrong, and run like Goucher.  Not that I aim high or anything...Sealed
