Pro 3903     Andover |  Subject: Killer Blues Guitar tunes?I'm looking for some tunes to download on my new Nano. Specifically, I'm looking for blues tunes w/ hot guitar in them, like Johnny Winter's Rock me baby. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

| Subject: RE: Killer Blues Guitar tunes? Good blues is hard to find. Do you have satellite radio? If so, XM radio has a decent blues station. You can sign up for a three day free trial and listen online to get some downloading ideas. IMO, the blues station on Sirius is not as good. There's nothing like good blues, BBQ, and beer! This can get pretty broad, I immediately think of the old school blues-influences rock: Clapton's stuff on Derek and the Dominoes (Layla...) and with John Mayall (Bluesbreakers), Boz Scaggs first album has a great version of "Loan me a Dime" with a sizzling guitar work by Duayne Allman, Stevie Ray Vaughn. You can go back even further to the blues masters like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Albert King, Freddie King for that matter. |

Definitely as rockin' as blues was ever played. Doubt it's available for download, tho. So, I assume you've already been through the SRV catalogue? |

Pro 4292 Evanston, | Subject: RE: Killer Blues Guitar tunes? Houston actually has a big blues scene. Take a listen to streaming kpft.org on the weekends and see if that's the kind you like. During the week they play public affairs stuff. Weekends there's a string of music shows, mostly blues during the day, especially Texas-based blues. Each host has his/her own flavor. Nuri Nuri with the Sunday Blues Brunch is really popular; for contemporary stuff there's Joe's Roadhouse on Saturday's. Bands that are playing here in town will often stop by Joe's Roadhouse first. Anyway, it might give you some ideas for what's out there these days. Because of kpft I've come to love the blues. |

Anything on Another Way to Find You, is great for blues guitar but High Heel Sneakers/Big Boss Man and Love You Like A Man are definitive. Also, Dust My Broom off of 'Live As I'll Ever Be'. One of the best versions of a Robert Johnson tune by anyone, period. Anyone who grew up in New Orleans should also listen to his spoken introduction to No Love Today on that album. |

Also you could toss in some Allman Brothers and if you go far back enough and can find it on the web, try Mike Bloomfield. John Mellencamp did a great live blues cover of Bob Dylan's Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat on the 30th anniversary concert album. He had some great back up from guys like Billy Preston on keyboards and Eric Clapton. 'Nuff said!

Just remembered this: 'Since I've Been Loving You' - Zeppelin - I think there's a studio version but the live version on 'Best in the West' just crushes. Straight up slow blues. .
