...... I'll be taking guesses on my race coming up this weekend, and the closest to the actual time I get in the race will be Paypal'ed or mailed $20 for the sweepstakes winnings!!
It's something we used to do on one of the car forums I used to be on with 1/4 mile track times. Pretty fun actually, and I won $20 once from it .....
Here's the deal:
I will be racing the Celtic Solstice 5 miler in Baltimore on the 17th. It is a very rolly/hilly course, it is looking like it will be around 28 degrees or so, and there may be slush/ice/crap on the ground from the muck we are supposed to get in Maryland on Thursday. And there are already around 1200 entrants into the race.
My fitness is pretty good, and if you check out my log, then you can see about where I stand. As a benchmark, I ran a 19:35 bone flat 5k just a few weeks ago
(right after Thanksgiving
). I can virtually guarantee that I will
not be breaking 30 on this 5 mile course. There is basically no way in h -e - double hockey stick that that will happen! It will be a safe bet that I will be somewhere in the 32 - 36 range depending on how I feel that morning and how much my mini taper of rest days on Thurs. and Fri. help. I know what I would like to run, but based on the course I don't know if it is going to happen ........
Everyone can have ONE prediction, and that can be changed up until 5:00pm on Friday. At that point I will post the person and the time they predicted in the thread and any post/change after that post will not be counted. $20 to the person with the closest prediction
(high or low, does not matter, this isn't the Price is Right
). Also give your first mile split time ........ if it is marked on the course, I will try to get that as well and try to do a mini-prime of $5 to the person that hits the time dead on
(only one person, the first in the thread that poseted it - may have to work out the logistics on that one!
).
Happy holidays and happy guessing!!
Rick
