Subject: What's on your Road ID?
My MIL is getting me a Road ID bracelet for my birthday.  I'm kind of stuck on what to put on it.  I'll put my name, my husband's cell number, his parents' home phone.  After that, I'm stuck.  What would be the most helpful in case of an emergency?  Ideas?

My RoadID has:

Name

City,State, USA

Husband's first name and cell #

The word "Parents" and their home #

My allergy/blood type

My slogan (Focus and Finish)

I have the arm band and it is great - a bit manly but for biking and running I don't care, I don't think it will come off of me in an accident.  If you don't want the bulk I would go with the necklace.

I include my drug allergies.

I know some people also include their insurance policy number but I'm sure as soon as I did that it would change.

I just got one for myself and my husband - the roadid website gives suggestions for abbreviations for different things.  I have on mine:

Full Name

City/State/USA

Hubby / Phone # / Home

Hubby / Phone # / Cell

Mom in NY / Phone #

drug allergy & blood type abbreviations

What was interesting that I learned from the site is NKDA for "No Known Drug Allergies" and "No Bees" if you're allergic to bee stings.

So, I suggest perusing their site for stuff outside of the standard phone #s

Here's the link to the RoadID folks' advice.

I've also heard that first responders are trained to look at the neck and wrist for medical alert tags, so the wrist or Fixx IDs are probably better than the shoe or ankle versions.

FWIW, There was a thread on here recently and a first responder posted that the "classic" road ID is a better choice vs the internet updateable "call this 800 # to get info" since the details are right there, on your wrist (also the preferred location).  If you ever need to update info you can spend $10 or so on a new ID plate.

Dog tag FIXX ID:

Name

Address

Home Phone

Medical condition (a specific clotting disorder)

"TAKES COUMADIN" - so I can be treated with IV Vitamin K to revverse any life-threatening bleeding if I kiss the pavement

NKA

HTFU

blood type is pretty much a waste of time since you would be typed and X-matched before receiving any blood products, and I agree that the wrist or dogtag-style IDs are the best since that's where first responders are trained to look, not on your ankle or shoe. And for those considering the shoeID, you likely haven't ever heard of car accident victims being knocked out of their shoes. JFYI.

I just got one as well:

My name

City, state

Wife's name, cell phone, "wife"

If I had any allergies, I'd have listed them.  I didn't think to put NKDA, but since I don't have any, if it was a life threatening emergency, I don't think would change what they would give me.  BTW, listing your blood type is not necessary.  You'll still get typed and crossed at the hospital, or they would give you universal donor.  No blood bank worth its license will trust an ID or self-reported type.

Just curious - if you needed blood and they checked your type to be "A", but your tag said "B", would they repeat the check, or just ignore your tag?

during my wife's recent stay in the hospital, whenever she received a blood transfusion it seemed the nurses were glad to check and cross reference anything available to make sure it was right before they started the pump.

if you come in from a trauma you will be given 0 negative until they have time to type and cross match.

your tags etc will all be ignored.

Wow! I have never heard of this. Do you just wear this in case something happens to you on the side of the road? How much are they? I totally want one.
