Alright gang...jump in.  ATT 10-miler is flat, fast, and world-class!  Don't forget, it may look flat, but it's mostly downhill for the first half.  Turning around at New Hill, you get slight ascent until about MP2.5, then a downhill section until about 3.5.  It finishes on a slight uphill near the MP5 point.  Just plan to be running slightly up at the finish, and you'll have a blast!

I need some motivation. I've run 8 miles in the last 5 weeks (4 of them yesterday). While I'm confident I could muscle through this thing, I need something new to get me to actually train and not just suffer through. How about we each put up a bottle of wine to go to the person who finishes the best as a percentage in their age group.

Winnings would need to be shared and consumed in a post-race party at somebody's house.

Who is in on that action?

Or, since it is close to Halloween, the one with the best costume (no, spandex is not a costume) gets a consolation prize.

Other ideas?

I'm in.  Can we make it bottle of wine or it's equivalent in a six-pack?

I'm 5 miles from the Wimberley ATT access, and would be happy to host a post-race potluck brunch for all BT ATT racers.  Might not be a good time to consume the winnings, but would be a good place to swap.

oh what to do what to do?????????

I am signed up for the B2B HIM and I am not exactly ready for it, especially from a running point of view. I was thinking of doing Pinehurst, but now should I maybe do ATT instead? Pinehurst would give me 4 weeks till B2B (and 1 more tri under my belt) and ATT just 2 weeks but it might give me a bit of an indication as to what I should attempt to run at B2B.
Any advice from those of you that have done HIM's.

By the way B2B will be my 1st HIM and 2nd triathlon (i did Kerr Lake) if I discount white lake sprint because it was a dnf due to injury.

qrkid - if you've only done one triathlon before, do Pinehurst. The course is completely different, but getting another triathlon under your belt is really going to help.

How are you feeling on the swim? If you get a chance, do a swim in the waterway at Wrightsville. I think there is a group that does that swim every thursday morning.

Doing a 10 miler 2 weeks before a HIM shouldn't be a problem, but follow your training plan.

If you guys and gals wouldn't mind pm'ing me your email addresses, I'll put you on the evite list.  Got a few of you covered (qrkid and kapinto).  The rest, no email addys in your profiles.

The trail is wonderful these days.  A bit too much litter for my liking though; might need to stage a cleanup day soon!

Okay gang...Saturday's rapidly approaching.  Right now it looks to be nice race weather.

Don't overload on post-race food at the race site-we'll have a tasty brunch awaiting at the house.  If everyone's not already on the evite, PM me.

check your email...it'll be immediately following the race.  when you finish, grab a quick snack then boogie on over to Apex.

FWIW, I'll probably be driving to the trailhead at New Hill and will ride my mountain bike up to the race site.  Last year I drove to Wimberly and rode up from there, but with this being one week out from City of Oaks, that lot might be full by 8am.  It's a nice 20 minute low-impact easy warmup.

No, Y Guides, it's our first year and first camping trip.  Haven't really camped out since my military days and my back may not like it much!

I think I am going to do the ride in from the trail head as well.  What time do you suggest starting out to leave enough time?

I'd like to be at the race site no later than 8am.  At 12mph (a nice meandering pace), that will take 27.5 minutes to get there.  Say meet at 7:30 at New Hill for the ride up?

All others are welcome to join as well!  We'll make it our own little reverse duathlon...

I am a little dense here. Having never run this before, can you explain the logistics? Are you planning on riding to the start, running the route and then riding back somewhere? Where will you keep your bike? What about changing clothing?

Did you receive the information email about the race last night?  Parking is unavailable at the race site; that is reserved for volunteers, officials, vendors, the general public wanting to use the trails.  Race participants are to park at the USA Baseball facility and ride a shuttle bus over to the race site.

I am doing things my way for a couple of reasons: 1) my own time schedule.  Don't have to wait on the bus either coming or going.  2) A nice warmup prior to the run; I need all the flexibility I can get in my tired old hips.  3) One less car in the lot over at USA Baseball.  4) It's actually closer to my house to drive to New Hill rather than USA Baseball.

Logistics:
I will drive approx. 6.5 miles to New Hill trailhead with my bike on my roof rack, wearing race clothes, carrying whatever I might need for the race in a backpack.  I will ride my bike up to the White Oak trail access (approx. 5.5 miles) along the ATT, park and lock the bike, and get ready to race.  When the race is over, I will then ride it back to New Hill, put it on my roof rack, and drive home approx. 6.5 miles.
