Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Okay, our "whose in" thread is big and we have 11 MONTHS TILL RACE DAY, so we needed our IMCdA 2011 OFFICIAL THREAD. So here it is! My biggest challenge will be getting used to riding hills. But I leave Central TX this week to move to San Diego. Training through the winter will be way doable and plenty of hills to be had for me to become a climber. 11 MONTHS! |

Extreme Veteran 335 Herriman, Utah | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm incredibly stoked to train for and participate in Ironman Coeur d'Alene next June! A bunch of friends from my Utah-based triathlon club, the Desert Sharks, have signed up as has my wife's awesome uncle, so the support for me is going to be tremendous. I've got a lot of work ahead of me - TONS! - just to get to the point where I can start my Ironman training, so this should be quite the exciting and eventful year for me. Tough as heck, too. But I embrace the challenge and can't wait to experience the results! I'm looking forward to this thread, too. I read the entire thing for the 2010 race, and it just made me all the more pumped up to get going. Three of my many goals for June 26, 2011: 1. Know that I've prepared as hard, effectively and diligently as possible when I'm at the starting line; 2. Hit my 200-pound overall weight-loss mark (95 pounds to go); and 3. Hear those amazing words, even if they come with 16:59:59 on the clock, "Jody Genessy ... you are an Ironman!" |

Veteran 202 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread All signed up and can't wait to start training. With that being said, I was on my first long ride since signing up for CdA and felt really good and motivated to have a good long ride. I was about 30 miles into the ride, when due to some unforeseen circumstances I lost control and flipped over the aerobars of my P2. I slid about 15 feet on the ashpalt which caused me to split my elbow open and have some major road rash down the right side of my body. Not the way I wanted to start my training, but after a trip to the ER, dealing with the nonsense that comes along with road rash and finally getting my bike back from the LBS, I am ready to get back to it and look forward to hearing about how everybody's training is going. Happy training |

Expert 1207 Liberty Lake, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread 2011 will be my 7th time at IMCDA. For me, Ironman really is more than just a race day or even race week. What makes for a great Ironman experience is the year leading up to it. The time on the race clock at the end of the day has had little to do with if I had a good race or a great race. The best years for me have been when I have gotten to know people thru BT, been able to meet them in person during race week, and recognize them out on the course. It is a lot more fun to race with people you know than with a bunch of strangers. I would encourage anyone who is racing this year to use their BT log, make it public, visit other people’s logs, leave inspire notes, post to this thread… in general be an active member of the IMCDA BT community. I look forward to see you all in June. |

Regular 63 Sunnyvale, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hey Tobin, that was a very inspirational post. I signed up for IMCDA the day after this year's race to make sure to get in and this will be my first IM. I definitely can use all the advice and encouragement from other fellow BTers doing CDA next year, and reciprocate, if possible. See you all on this thread, BT logs, and hopefully at the race! PS - Cool video, BTW |

Elite 2998 Fishers, Indiana | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So happy to see the enthusiasm here! I am excited and have cheered on course the past two years. I too am glad we have Tobin's expert advice in here again and totally agree with him that we all need to spur each other towards victory over these next months of training--especially when winter hits and it's easy to drag. One thing I have seen these past two years--get your lodging sooner than later!! Now, I decided to rent a house in downtown CdA cause I have family coming in for vacation and that was the most logical. BUT, don't discount staying in places like Post Falls. That is actually where I stayed with my friends racing these past two years and it isn't too far at all. If you have never seen the area, you are in FOR A TREAT! It is gorgeous!! |

Master 1661 Newbury Park, CA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm coming back to CDA for IM #4 - all in CDA (2006, 2007, 2009). It was "suggested" I take 2008 off and just do a few 70.3's so my kids would remember who I was. Work forced me to miss 2010 and put a major dent in my fitness this past year. I'm so excited to have CDA as a goal again. Tobin is absolutely correct stating race day is just a small part of doing an IM. I really enjoy the discipline of working towards the goal. Having a great BT group to share the experience and help each other get over any hurdles is key. Looking forward to the ride.... |

Good call on the lodging. I have been all over that since I signed up. Nothing booked yet but how far is Post Falls and is it right off the highway? What I have found so far is better deals through chain websites vs the "preferred" ironman hotels |

Good call on the lodging. I have been all over that since I signed up. Nothing booked yet but how far is Post Falls and is it right off the highway? What I have found so far is better deals through chain websites vs the "preferred" ironman hotels Last year I stayed at the Riverbend Inn in Post falls (http://riverbend-inn.com/) and the rooms were fine. A decent continental breakfast with boiled eggs, english muffins, fruit, yogurt, and some more. It is right off the highway and right next to the Centennial Trail. The friends I was with were part of a team, and they all booked here. This year I stayed at the Red Lion Templins Inn in Post Falls, not as "right" off the highway, but not far and with nice views. Riverbend was cheaper than Red Lion, but the only major difference was maybe a bit more on the breakfast (but you have to get a package to get it--not part of the deal) and it had a small indoor pool and hottub. BUT awesome views, and even though it's off the highway a bit, it's closer to CdA than Riverbend. But both were good experiences for the crew I was with each time. That being said, I'm looking forward to staying in CdA this next time just for convenience for me and the family. But I'm also paying to do that too! |

Can some plz give me the logistics for this race so I can see cost wise if it makes sense. 1) Where to fly into 2) places to stay 1) Where to fly into: Spokane, WA (about a 45 min drive from CdA--interstate the whole way) 2) Places to stay: Anywhere from the CdA resort, to Motel 8 in CdA, to Holiday Inn--or check down the road in Post Falls, ID (10 minutes or so from CdA). CdA is a vacation town, so if you look it up and/or Post Falls, ID you'll find quite a few choices for hotels. |

New user 1 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I'm in as well. Finished last year undertrained and with poor nutrition planning & execution. 2010 Ironman CDA was probably harder on my fiance then me (at least she thinks so ) so she said I couldn't do another one. It took a few weeks and some pretty serious convincing but we reached a compromise and I'm going to do my best to toe the line in June '11 better prepared and knock at least 2 hours off my time and targeting 3.5. Good luck to everyone, it's a serious commitment and a life changer. The finishing chute is worth all of it... |

That's quite a schedule especially post-IM, good for you!! you know you can become a "Marathon Maniac" with that marathon schedule of yours! (google them, you will qualify for some level for sure!). I hit up the San Diego Marathon in early June, did a sprint tri/50k combo this past weekend, have an Oly in Sept, and will do the San Antonio Marathon in Nov. I'm also going to start riding the hills of San Diego to build some base before I hit IM specific training in Dec/Jan. I haven't figured out anything plan wise yet. But am waiting till I get moved (packers are loading stuff on the truck as I type!) to figure that all out. San Diego should be a plethora of resources for me. Not to mention my new steed is already there awaiting my arrival (a 2010 Felt B2R named "Patton") |

Member 319 Seattle, WA | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread So very excited and terrified for this race! As a first-timer, I will likely have plenty of questions for all you veteran IMers. What training plan is everyone using? When are you likely to start IM specific training? What do you recommend doing in the off-season to prepare? |
