Okay, so this morning...in the women's locker room....I discover my hair brush has fallen out of my gym bag somewhere between my kitchen and the locker room.

So I asked the three other women all standing around if I could borrow a hair brush so I could put my hair up (have to have it up in uniform).

And ALL of them refused!

I wouldn't have even thought twice if someone asked to borrow my hair brush...am I crazy?

I've let members of my swim club borrow mine. They're the only ones that have asked me so far.

I picked "only if I knew them" but honestly, if someone really needed it, I'd lend it to them. I'd lend you my hairbrush

We had an issue with head lice with our kids and gosh it was unpleasant to get rid of it.

We have strict rules about no sharing even between sisters...so sorry I wouldn't lend you my hair brush but I don't even comb my hair as it is to short.

Do adults really ever get head lice though?  I truly thought that was a "kids in school" kind of problem.

What normal, average, working, run-of-the-mill adult would have head lice and NOT be doing something about it????

I wouldn't.  I don't share my brush with anyone.  My mom works in a school and has seen a lot of head lice cases, so we weren't allowed to share anything - brushes, hats, etc.

I too have to wear my hair up...the military uniform thing, and would definitely share in that situation a the base gym/pool.  At the YMCA on a random day with those I dont know and will probably never see again, probably not.

No way.  If I was done with it for the day, I would probably let you have it, but keep it, I don't want it back.

I was dating a guy with a daughter and we both got head lice from using her brush. It was awful! And I didn't know I had it for a while. We tried to get rid of it on our own, but they were still there after several treatments. I was living in LA at the time and thank GOd there is this salon called THe Hair Faireis that only removes lice from people's hair. You have to go for 3 treatments and they use all organic products. If the whole family goes they garuntee that the lice will be gone. Here's the kicker, they are constantly booked! Adults, kids etc. and you have to fill out a questionaire while you are there where they ask how long you have been trying to get rid of it yourself. Supposedly that can go on for months! So based on all of that I would not loan anyone my brush. The whole experince was awful!

Many of those normal, average, working, run-of-the-mill adults have kids.

Sometimes you don't know for awhile but are contagious. It is very prominent around here at times. The pharmacist I'm friends with says it goes in spurts.

It isn't like a kid gets it and doesn't do anything about it either. How many of us have had it and know exactly what it is. When my kid mentioned something didn't strike a cord with me...they have itchy head from skin issues often in the past. It took probably 5-7 days to figure it out when one was caught then we did internet search to see if that was it. Then the rest of us became super paranoid even though only one kid had it we treated everyone twice.

Work in an ER for a month or two and you wouldn't ask that question. And military is no exception, I spent 3 1/2 years working out of the ER at Nellis AFB, Nevada. It's amazing the things that people don't know or don't understand about personal health/hygiene.

A few quotes "The first one tasted horrible and I won't drink another!" (From a high ranking officer after we sent him home with two fleets ENEMAS for constipation)

"Well, yeah, I knew she had it, so when I ran out of prophylactics, I just turned one inside out." (From an enlisted man who contracted gonorrhea)

"Well, the bottle says kills germs" (From another enlisted man who took pinesol and a scrub brush to his afflicted personal area)

And the list goes on....

I'd let you borrow it (once I'm done with it).

I'd take it back and then probably throw it away on the way out.  But I wouldn't have left you hanging like that.  I can buy a new brush for $5.

Yes, adults can get head lice.  If you have hair you can get lice. YOu can go to the movies and sit down in a chair that was previously occupied by someone with lice. Little critter jumps off onto the chair, you sit down, little critter jumps on you.

I am scarred for life after having gone through the experience of having my son get lice in first grade....So, I'm sorry, no sharing of hair brushes for me,  especially if I don't know you.

Dang. I'm already grossed out when I put my head against the seat in movies. Now I'm going to be extra paranoid!

if you are irresponsible enough to lose your hairbrush and are lackadaisical enough to ask a stranger to borrow theirs, then your "track record" doesnt look that good in my book. you ARE the one that would have the potential to have the head lice.........so the answer would be "no".....

not trying to be nasty but logic and "evidence" is against you

How 'bout this one then...

I had just VOLUNTARILY done a 5.5 mile track workout...I would call that fairly motivated.  The people I was trying to borrow one from were just getting done with MANDATORY PT.  They wouldn't have been there if they hadn't been forced to be there.

Now who is the irresponsible and lazy one?

Your argument is pretty weak.  EVERYONE forgets stuff at home....responsible or not.

To answer a few other posters...yes, I guess anyone can get head lice...but I would STILL maintain that any adult with head lice wouldn't be stupid enough to ask to borrow a hair brush while they have head lice.  We're not talking about homeless people that just walked in off the street here...
