Member 50 Virginia Beach | Subject: Do Not Shop at Best Buy I had my credit cards and cell phone stolen today. They immediately went to Best Buy purchased over $600.00 worth of stuff yet Best Buy failed to check the ID. The cops, my credit union and Visa all tell me to go to the store. The manager was unsympathetic and extrememely rude, she would not help in the least, expect to say make a police report. Now yesterday I ate at Subway spent $4.72 and they check ID. All that Best Buy cares about is $$$ and nothing else. |

I agree BEST BUY should've checked ID especially for a purchase of that amount! Post up which BEST BUY- maybe thier Phone # or e-mail and have people write/ phone campaign about thier non ID checking policy.......Sometimes if you complain loud and long enough you get results Edited by jbjboc 2007-02-24 2:03 PM |

Elite 2661 DC Metro, slowly working my way to NC | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy I'm not surprised. I try to avoid Best Buy whenever possible - their customer service in the stores is simply horrific. Since the manager isn't helping, it's time to go up the food chain - go straight to corporate and tell them what's going on. The manager's behaviour is totally unsat. Customer Service Inquiries |

Champion 5495 Whizzzzzlandia | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy Circuit City is no better. I've been boycotting them since 1993 due to a minor disagreement we had regarding repairs to my microwave. They were complete jerks about it... over the $25 estimate fee which was supposed to be credited toward the repair of the unit. They gave me a really hard time, were very rude, and ultimately did NOT credit me the $25 estimate fee. I've only recently gone back into one of their stores. And I don't think I bought anything. Now where am I supposed to shop for electronics??? EEEEEKKKK! |

All that Best Buy cares about is $$$ and nothing else. Maybe the card was swiped by the user and not the store (like at Target). In that case, no one checks any ID? I think it's unfortunate that the person that stole your stuff didn't stop by Subway on the way to Best Buy |

Master 3019 West Jordan, UT | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy It is not best buy's fault someone stole your credit card. I don't think I have been to ANY store that checks ID every time. Plus, I hardly look like my ID pic anymore. All you should have to do is dispute the charge and Visa will investigate the charges. Every time i have had a fradulent charge on my account, it has been resolved and the money returned. Edited by tkbslc 2007-02-24 2:45 PM |

Pro 4189 Pittsburgh, my heart is in Glasgow | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy both my credit card and debit card have "Check ID" on them. I always make sure to thank clerks who ask to see my ID as well, just so they continue to do it. Sucks a lot that they bought so much stuff. I had my credit card duplicated last summer, and thank God I'm a poor student and my credit limit was only $1,000 at the time. Visa shut my card down after a suspicious purchase. You'll get your money back, it just takes paperwork. |

Elite 4547 | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy If I were you I'd narrow it down to that particular Best Buy. It seems as if this happened within 24 hours they'd be able to check surveillance without a problem. It's totally ridiculous they didn't do that for you. Take the advice of the person who gave you the upper management's contact info. and get your credit card company involved. It will be resolved so don't worry. |

Champion 7821 Brooklyn, NY | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy Sorry to hear about your situation. Unfortunately, as someone who's had a lot of experience in the retail sector, believe it or not, many people (I would even go so far as to say most people) get extremely indignant and hostile to sales clerks who ask for id for a credit card sale. So it's not surprising that lots of sales clerks figure it's not worth the hassle of getting b*tched at, and they don't do it. THe people who stole your cards are the enemy here, not some $8.00 an hour sales clerk who probably got his supervisor called on him the last time he asked for someone's id. |

And how is that different from nearly every other business?? As much as what happened SUCKS, I hope you've had time to take a few deep breathes and focus on a solution instead of Best Buy, which is not the root of the problem. |

I agree... we have done it to ourselves. I am guilty as well. When they want to see an extra ID, I make a face a dig into my wallet uncooperatively and hand them my license. We can complain all we want that they should be able to take it... but you know what, they're human too... and they don't want to take the BS just as much as we don't want to deal with it. So really, if you are to blame anyone, blame us... the community... cause 1/2 the time we're b*tching to the fact that we have to show an extra ID So who's fault is it really? |

Expert 821 Golden, CO | Subject: RE: Do Not Shop at Best Buy Most businesses do not check ID's because the credit card companys for the most part are beginning to cover purchases on stolen cards. In fact - isn't one of the ad campaigns pointing out you do not need to show your ID when you use the Visa check card. In fact for under $25.00 they do not even require a signature anymore. I read an interesting article in Wall Street that stores are trying to get consumers to use their PINS instead of signatures. If you notice a lot of stores now default to a PIN screen instead of signature when you swipe. The reason the stores want you to use the pin is that they are charged a much smaller fee by the credit card companys when you charge this way. Needless to say the credit card companys and banks are now offering incentives to their customers that they only get if they sign for the purchases and not use the PINS. The reason the credit card companies charge less for the PINS is that it is more secure than the signatures and thus less of a chance for them to cover fraudulent sales. Obviously the extra money that the companies receive from the signatures is much more than the saving the companies get with the extra security of the PIN. |

Depends on the pool and the policy. Like in a big pool, doesn't matter so much. But the pool I work at now? yep, we'd have to close down for a while. when it comes out the other end, that's when we get hazard pay . |
