The women's marathon starts very soon (in 8 minutes my time). I hope NBC shows a good portion of the race, since it doesn't appear that they are going to show it online. Good luck Deena!

Watching it now.  They haven't said why Deena had to leave.  I wonder how Paula Radcliffe is feeling.

Shoot. Deena didn't even get warmed up....I guess I'd like to see Paula Radcliffe do well and take a medal...of course I'm rooting for any US athlete...bummer.  Nice to have the prime time coverage though.

Its great that they are showing the entire race.  Deena has a Hx of stress fractures, so it wouldn't be a surprise if she had another and completely broke it like I did.

Is it an Olympics custom to paint a line for the full course?

I've never seen a race where this a 26 mile painted line for the course.

Always.  They paint the exact distance to complete 26.2 miles and the runners run pretty much right on that line.  I saw it done first in '96 right here in Atlanta.  The line isn't permanent and fades over time.

Is it just me or is number 2372 in some kick a$$ shape?  Usually the mary chicks are all scrawny, she's got a bit of buff to her, looks more like a triathlete, no?

Is the announcer paid for every time he mentions the Gate of Heavenly Peace and the portrait of Chairman Mao???  I swear he's mentioned them like 10 times now!  Otherwise, good coverage.  I can't believe they're carrying it live and without interruption from any other sports (yet).

someone should to tell this ELITE women that they shouldn't be landing with their heels! They should know better that to run fast you have to be forefoot striker (or wear newtons)

Anyway, come on Paula!

Now that I'm looking for her, they aren't showing her.

I'd love to see Paula Radcliffe have a redeeming race after the last Olympics.

Heh. The announcers are just pointing out that her running style is not as smooth now. Look at you, being all observant. They should let you commentate.

She actually won the Chicago marathon in 2004 and then came to Fleet Feet the next year before the marathon. I think she took second that year. She's about the size of a tiny twig in real life.
