Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: What is your vehicle? Recent life events have come together and the result is that I sold my 2002 Jeep Wrangler X. I really enjoyed my time with it, but it was time to make a change. I am now driving my wife's old 2006 Dodge Caravan, and have found it to quite a practical solution. I shouldn't be surprised, after all, it has been the primary equipment carrier/race sherpa since I've been doing this. Yesterday I had my bike in the back and after I finished a couple of errands I took out the bike and got in a great little 10 mile test of my pulled hamstring. So, the question is, what is everyone driving and why? What types of vehicles are being used by BTer's to get to races, training and in everyday life? And pictures are always appreciated! |

Not the most practical for this sport, but I drive a lot more than I race, so I'll deal with a bike rack on occasion. Besides, the wife drives an SUV. |

Master 2802 Minnetonka, Minnesota | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? Acura. Super reliable, practical yet fun to drive, etc. 2004 MDX with almost 200,000 miles. Now my daughter's car. "My" car - 2005 Acura TL. I have a short commute. It only has 90,000 miles on it. Wife's car - 2014 Acura MDX. Awesome vehicle. We want AWD in MN and I need something to pull my boat with. Also own a 4wd 4-door 2004 Dodge Dakota Truck that is my son's car (he is in college). It is handy to have a truck once in awhile for moving, hauling, etc. |

Champion 10550 Austin, Texas | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? 2013 Mini Cooper Countryman and I LOVE it! Put the bike rack on the top and there's a lot of room inside to put gear (11 bankers boxes, 3 suitcases, a bike trainer, lots of loose clothing and some extra stuff that I don't even remember right now). Or, with the back seats laying flat, it also has enough room in the back to put one bike in without taking either wheel off. And it's fun to drive. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? Mazda CX-7. They don't make it anymore but it's similar to the CX-5 just a bit bigger. I bought it as I wanted an SUV where I could lay down the back seats and slide in bikes without any disassembling. It is not the smoothest ride, but it also isn't a luxury vehicle. It works really well for my life right now. |

Just drove home (last weekend) the 2014 MINI Cooper Countryman. It's a blast to drive and I am looking forward to fitting a bunch of stuff in the back. Right now, it can fit a paddleboard on the roof! Oh - and the mileage is fabulous! |

Master 4119 Toronto | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? We bought a Mazda 5 last year just before we welcomed a baby into our lives. It was smaller than a van - which we didn't need for 1 baby but the sliding side doors are super convenient. I have been thankful for them several times in tiny parking spaces, so glad I could get the baby in her car seat through and didn't have to have the door out. It also has a hatch and fold down rear seats for hauling stuff (baby, triathlon, etc) and the dog. I really am very happy with it. It's perfect for living in the city - it's not so big we have trouble parking it but not so small that we feel like we can't have everything we need with us. We both like smaller cars but this will meet our family needs for some time and it was pretty reasonably priced. We got the model with a few key features: heat seats, blue tooth for phone and stereo and steering wheel controls of those things. |

Champion 10019 , Minnesota | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? I just traded in my Rav4, which I would still recommend, for a 2014 Ford Escape. This is about the same size, just a lot of new/nicer features. Plenty of room, with the seats down, to haul two bikers and all their stuff. Really good features for the price point, I think. I can smell that new car smell just thinking about it... I love it!!!!!!! |

Expert 2192 Greenville, SC | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? Volkswagen GTI. I can lay the back seats down and fit a bike and a few gear bags, and I have a roof rack for more bikes and stuff too. If I were in the market for a new form of transportation I would probably go for a Honda Element personally. |

Veteran 416 Cleveland, Tennessee | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? 2003 Buick Rendezvous - plenty of space for Pikatti (dog) in the back for the weekend travels and enough space for gear in the back and on top. Unfortunately I have a trailer hitch "hangin" bike rack, but want to replace that with a stand-up when I add another bike. |

Elite 5145 Cleveland | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? Lincoln MKZ With the wheels off, I can fit my 58cm TT bike in the back seat without having to turn the bars, and the trunk is large enough to hold a second bike the same way (including wheels, and even bike trainer and all race gear). Stylish, super-comfy, and surprisingly tri-friendly.

Oh, we have 4 kids so initially it was a necessity. Work vehicle: I drive a beat up 95 S10 to and from work every day. Good mileage, and the bed is nice to have when it's needed. A friend has an old Ford Aerostar that they are pretty much giving me to get out of their driveway. Once I fix that, we will have 2 family-friendly vehicles and then I can spruce up the truck for my son next year... 16... ugh. |

I drive a Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab, room for all my stuff, all my friends, and my dog. I can open the back door and roll my bike in on the floor in front of the back seat, just roll it in and shut the door, fits great.
My wife drives a BMW 330ci Convertible.
This car gets road trip duty in most cases so I had to figure out a bike carrying solution. I installed a 1 1/4" hitch on the car, then got a free hanging bike rack. The hanging rack sucked so I found a new rack. 1upUSA Rack
Here it is all loaded up and ready to go to IMCDA last month. Who said a convertible can't be practical. |

Veteran 444 | Subject: RE: What is your vehicle? 2005 Chevy Avalanche. Love, love, love, love that truck and may never have anything else. I keep tool kits, tie downs, first aid kits, trailer hitches and other random junk in the saddle bags. I am able to fold the back seats down and slide the bike in, or throw it in the bed and lock the tailgate with the lids. It's so handy. I thought about getting an SUV but I haul too many plants and yard equipment to try to keep SUV carpet clean. |

There will be no bike rack on the back of that car for quite some time! She catches a decent amount of flack for having a hitch on a BMW, but it really is the only way to carry a bike on that car (I can't stand those trunk mount racks).
She was recently rear ended in that car, we took it to the shop for an estimate. The guy comes out, takes his pictures and such, then says, "what kind of idiot puts a trailer hitch on a BMW?!?" I laughed and said, "right here, this kind of idiot". He backed off when he found out it was for a bike. |

Ouch to the accident, I hope it wasn't too bad. |
