Would anyone be up for the challenge of devoting a minimum of 15 minutes every day in the month of February to flexibility exercises??  This means any sort of exercises that may work towards improving your flexibility.  It could be static stretching, active stretching, massage, foam rolling, etc etc!!  The goal is really more or less to get in the habit of working on your flexibility on a regular basis!  This challenge would last for the month of February, so 28 days.  I'm in if you're in!!  Anyone??

I am really not looking forward to this.  Which is weird because I was such a good little stretcher last year.  I have just learned to love the couch and a pint at the end of the night rather than holding a calf stretch for 1 minute each side.

I was going to suggest someone take the lead on this and keep things interesting, you know, suggesting stretches and stuff but I think that is foolish.  I mean, we all know the stretches right?????  Anyways, if someone has some good routines though I wouldn't mind hearing of them.

That sounds like a very lame excuse. You can be drinking beer AND stretching at the same time.

Really though, I think it is just about being conscious about telling yourself to do it here or there.  For example, if you're watching TV, get on the floor and start stretching your hamstrings, glutes, groin, etc.  Or stand against the wall and stretch your calves, quads, etc.  I'm sure there are many opportunities to stretch throughout the day, IF you make a conscious effort to think about doing it.

Yes.  I count it anyway.  I definitely think it works towards improving flexibility.

I had a physical therapy session today (I have hip issues) but she also gave me some "homework" of a few exercises to do so I'll also try to do some stretching in the evening.  Apparently I've got a lot of tight areas. She said the tendons of my hamstrings (that attach at the knees) were like guitar strings they were so hard. Tongue out She kept saying stretching is important, stretching is important, saying she was emphasizing that it's important LOL.  So everyone, stretching is important! Laughing

For many of the stretches she gave me, she said to do 3x 1 minute holds.  For the foam rolling, 5 minutes at a time for each muscle.

Day one down here.  Solid effort- and it reminds me that 15 minutes of stretching/core/flexibility is probably better for me than an hour on the TM.

I love this thread.
