Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Drawing/painting - I doodle and sketch sporadically. I have sketchbboks stashed all over the place so when the mood strikes I can draw what's on my mind or go out to find something interesting. I also enjoy making things out of paper - collage, sculpture, etc... |

In particular, seeing the joy on one of the "average" kid's face when I compliment them on their effort, regardless of the outcome. One of my greatest pleasures. p.s. one of mine is one of the "average" kids |

And I like to be pulled behind said boat whilst doing incredible carving turns shooting up walls of water (in my own mind). Watching the sun go down over the water with a glass of chardonnay in my hand and Janicewhokeepsmehumble at my side. Calling The Geezerettes on Sunday morning to see what fun stuff they did the night before. (They just love it when I call about 8:00AM) Cooking and eating really interesting food. I am into heavy metal, Bourgeat copper cookware to be exact. http://www.mychefsfavorites.com is a great resource. What a geek. TW |

BTW: thats hilarious you wake your daughters up. My parents used to do that too, then I just started turning off my phone to teach them a lesson--that freaked them out so they stopped. Ok, my interests: Reading |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1. I am a voracious reader; I have 9 mags that come to the house and I am reading three books right now. My house looks like a small library of non-fiction books. 2. I love to golf and I am a 7 handicap 3. In my former life I was a hard rock guitarist (80's heavy metal) who went to music school in CA for 2 years. So I still have all of my crap and will play accasionally in the spare room along with a cd. 4. I love to play NTN triva at my local bar, I am a closet geek. God, I sound like some loner type A personality. All of the things I am into are all done bymyself... I swear I like being around people, honest. |

Hey Jeepfleeb, did you read Brian Greene's Fabric of the Cosmos? I read it over the summer and while I admit to being pretty damn smart. I had to go over a lot of the chapters and read them two and three times; that is why is took me 4 months to read it. I thought man am I a real dumbass....lol |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() 1. Reading Sci-Fi or Fantasy. I am a lawyer and all day long get to try and solve other people's problems. So, when I'm on my own dime, I want to get as far away from reality as I can. 2. Building furniture. 3. Movies. (see No. 1, above.) 4. Playing with my 4 kids. |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Spending time with my son and seeing him develop pretty much as I watch. He's almost four and he's become this completely individual, funny, kind, interesting person. It's wild. He also shoved peas down the a.c. vent this week, but give me my rose-colored-glasses moment here. Reading--love it and spend a lot of time doing it. Almost exclusively fiction, but my tastes range widely. Recent goodies: My Year of Meats by Ruth Ozeki, Kite Runner. Current: The Dork of Cork. Scuba--I got certified 11 years ago and have been as obsessed as my finances will allow ever since. Actually most water-related activities float my boat--boating, sailing, body surfing, beaching, even fishing now and again. Writing--I spend a lot of time doing it professionally, so I don't do as much for fun as I'd like, but soon. I'm writing stories for my nieces and nephews (and son, of course!) with themselves as the protagonists for Christmas. Hope they aren't too materialistic to enjoy them. Growing things--herbs, vegetables and fruit, flowers. I just got some cuttings/ divisions from one of my neighbors so I'm going to go play in the dirt shortly. Spending time with friends, preferably with good food and drink involved. I really enjoy cooking things from places I've lived and visited, so I have people over for Indonesian, Thai, Nepali, Korean, and West Indian food fairly often. And wine and beer are key elements of my training program. |

molto veloce mama![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() hmmm. this is a tough one for me. there are many things i love to do but am not able to do because i'm a full time mama and because of our lifestyle (for example, it VERY hard to get out on my mountain bike since the closest trails are too far and i don't drive. its also tough to mountain bike while pulling a burley - not that i've tried). also, there are lots of things that give me joy in my daily life that i'd miss out on if we didn't live life the way we do...so we trade some pleasures for others. so, i have two lists - things i love that i'm doing on a regular basis ...and things that i wish i could do more of. 1. walking/hiking - i walk everywhere, usually at least a few miles a day. my daughters also walk a lot (ella did over 6 miles in one day last week). one our walks, we get to see the seasons change, bird watch, people watch, count dogs, count bikes, converse, sing songs, etc. even before i had children i loved walking, appreciating the morning glories, the fall color, the icicles...things i would have missed had i been driving. i also love hiking and backpacking. we're not doing as much backpacking this year, but i'm hoping that we can pick it back up again in 2007 when fiona will be 4 and ella will be 6. by then they should both be able to hike 5+ miles a day. 2. smells - i love smells. the way my children smell after playing outside. the way my husband smells (well, most of the time). fi's breath after nursing. lilacs. peonies. freesia. roses. lavender. anything made by aveda. fresh bread. tomato plants. garlic in butter. the woods up north. (two tri related smells - the hint of chlorine even after a shower, and the smell of citrus degreaser). 3. gardening/food/cooking - these things are all interconnected to me. i love gardening and wish i had more time to do more. love getting our produce from the farm each week. love visiting farms, the farmers market, the coop. i love the intimacy of knowing where, how and, by whom our food is grown/raised. most days, i take joy in cooking. it goes in phases though. some weeks i want to cook and bake all day, and other weeks i let bill take over (he also loves to cook). 4. asl - american sign language. i was a certified interpreter before i was a stay at home mom. ella's first words and sentences were in asl. i'm not interpreting these days, but i use asl almost daily since a good friend of mine is deaf. we homeschool together, and our daughters are best of friends. things i love that i wish i could do more of... 1. trail running/mountain biking - i group these together because i love them for similar reasons, and i'm unable to do them for similar reasons. when the kids are older, i will hopefully be able to do both more often. this and getting to the pool in the winter may finally drive to getting my license (pun intended). 2. reading - i still read quite a bit but i can't get through more than a paragraph these days, unless i have the flu or something. 3. art - my other love during my college days was art, mainly oil painting and high fire ceramics. still have all my painting stuff, packed away in the basement. have thought seriously about renting a wheel at one of the local colleges, but haven't done it yet. |

Buttercup![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reading. Currently reading "Shakespeare: The Invention of the Human." Films, especially indies and foreign films. Food. I'm a foodie. I love New American Cuisine and Northern Italian. I also love to cook full course meals for my friends. My cats - I adore them even my little 6mos old boy, Lorenzo. My family. Oh so important to me. I feel grounded when I've spent time with them. My closest friends. To tell my secrets I dare not tell my family! Travel. Been to Italy 7 times, Paris only once. Skiing. What a fabulously clean rush. Sailing, of which I am currently experiencing a deficit. Missing in my life at the moment but very important to me: a trustworthy man with whom to share my life. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Reading historical novels, biographies, government constitutions anything about the social construct and fiction but with one caveat nothing modern only classical - most things after 1900 doesn't make the cut. POLITICS - Love it love it love it. Anything with governments and people is my favorite. Love to read writings by founding fathers, French revolutionists, Nigerian freedom fighters. So interesting. Movies - all kinds but mostly classics and independents - anything by Tarrantino, Hitchhock, Gordon Parks etc. Love the 70s - music, culture and film Food - love to cook and mix and match wine Singing in the choir - nuthing like praising the Lord with a joyful noise. Just so peaceful and wonderful fills me with such joy. Photos of old, mostly abandoned houses - one-room school houses etc. So beautiful. Don't know why just love to see them. Also love architecture and old houses in general. |
