Looking at titles of COJ threads and see that many, many of them surround TV shows.  Is there anyone else out there who has never seen one of theses shows?  Anyone else who just doesn't watch TV?

I'll occasionally sit down and watch a sporting event, and occasionally/rarely my wife will get a movie from net flicks or some other outlet and we'll watch it together, but I've never even seen an episode of seinfeld, or friends, much less any of the shows that are talked about here.

Am I alone?  Bueller?

*Raising hand*  I last turned on the TV to watch the cops catching Dzhokhar Tsarnaev last Friday.  Prior to that was the last episode of Downton Abbey.

Same as you, I occassionally watch some games when one of the home teams are playing - usually during play offs.  I only get channels from antenna.

I haven't owned a tv or watched tv in > 10 years. I will, on a rare occassion--once every six months-- pull something up on line, usually PBS "Nature," to watch with the kids.

I started one of the TV show threads, and now that you bring it up, its the only TV show I watch with any regularity. Most anything else is sports, or some science related thing on NatGeo/Smithsonian/PBS. Thats about it. I've never seen pretty much anything else considered a popular TV show.

We have no cable, so "watching television" is always on our own schedule, and through Netflix or Hulu+. There are I think four or five shows that are in our queue on Hulu+, totaling about 4 hours of "on air" time -- the time we watch is less via these methods.

I watch some shows sometimes with my husband and son. I like to hear my son laugh at the jokes or get into the drama.

But I don't care enough to contemplate the stories..

We watch quite a few shows together, my wife and I. However it is all done via Hulu/internet/on demand as we usually are in bed asleep before these things actually air. Our usual watching of it also usually involves cooking, cleaning, stretching, playing with the dogs etc. so much of the time we are multitasking and enjoying it while doing other things. I do watch the news every morning while getting ready though, without fail.

A couple of years ago I went in to have a meeting with my financial advisor and he had MSNBC (I think it was MSNBC, ticker scrolling across the bottom) on a flat screen on the wall directly opposite his desk.  I sat down and he started the meeting--with the GD TV on!  Yep, just started going over my portfolio, talking over the audible (not muted) TV.

I sat there in disbelief for about 15 seconds.

I then asked him if he was going to turn the TV off. And he said, "Oh sure, I didn't even realize it was still on. "

WTF?

Who the hell conducts a meeting with a TV on?  Who the hell doesn't know there's a TV on when they're conducting a meeting?

I don't watch any grown up shows, really. Its embarrassing.  I watch the Real Housewives crap and reruns of Golden Girls, Seinfeld, Cosby Show, Roseanne, Family Ties, I love lucy, Mary Tyler Moore, etc.  And sometimes say yes to the dress, Price is Right, even Family Feud.

Truly an embarrassing array.  But I love the old sitcoms.  They don't make them like they used to.

I can totally live in a TV free house.  My DH would have the TV on watching grass grow.  My 8yr old daughter turns into a zombie when watching TV.

We have shows we watch together - The Voice because I just love to see how animated she is watching that and dreaming of being a singer one day!  Cute!  A couple of comedies, Modern Family and The Middle are her faves.

My husband watches Greek kids shows with her including things like Scooby Doo, Spongebob etc. - very important as she is totally bilingual and it's fun to watch while learning.

BUT if I had my way I wouldn't probably bother with a tv at all!  Music however I cannot do without.

I haven't had cable or satellite hookup for about 15 years now. Got a few thousand movies.

Occasionally I'll hear about a series that catches my attention, Millennium, Bones, Firefly, Kolchack, Once Upon a Time, and I'll get the DVDs of the series or make sure it's on Netflix or Hulu. That's about it for any kind of regular TV.

Now I make sure I can get ESPN and other sports networks but literally only for Alabama football. I'll watch most SEC games if I'm really in the mood but I honestly don't give a damn about sports outside Alabama football.

Don't have a clue about most of the series talked about here, in other words.

We got rid of our satellite about a year ago...and don't miss it at all.   Smartest move we ever made.

We have an antenna, and in our area that gives us one channel.  We can watch the local and national news every evening.  Except for the odd movie rental, the TV sits idle.  And we are all the better for it.

It has...gasp....allowed us to spend more time talking and doing stuff as a family....doing a variety of other activities, and omg....gotten us off our butts more.

i can understand that for a financial advisor.  i might not agree with it for a private client meeting (at least hit mute), but i can understand how they might forget that it's on.  i've spent a long time working on trading floors where tv's are strung up like christmas lights with bloomberg, reuters, cnbc, msnbc, and every other market-watch show is playing non-stop and it becomes almost like a second mind.  you hear it, but you don't.  certain words catch your attention to keep you plugged into what's going on in the market.  but you can still function 100% without it distracting you from doing what you need to do.

i love TV.

^^^ This, she says, sheepishly, (and I don't know why i always feel embarrassed).  Although I have this "thing" about reality TV, like it's the line I won't cross.  But I think there's some really great TV that's produced nowadays -- sure if you factor in reality TV the curve gets pulled down.  But in the documentary arena, and some of the dramas are just really well written, well produced and well done all around.  That said, chilling out to some of my usual suspects lately like Bones or the Mentalist or Person of Interest for 41.5 minutes while I eat dinner ain't a bad way to spend a little time.

Also I try to get a small dose of some of the talking heads, mostly for work just to keep up with the boss and lunchtime conversation. I'll catch snippets of the Morning Joe (one of his favorites) while I'm getting ready for work.

Abandoning a TV is an interesting thought, however.

actually my principal leaves it on CNN, and its a good thing, or else we'd have no idea about 9-11 happening.  Even being only 45 minutes from the Pentagon.

Nowadays I prefer twitter, its a great way to know breaking news...until they retract something.

And yes, I love TV too. I'm an intellectual, I like being mentally challenged and stimulated.  However, I love to laugh and forget about all that is happening in the world.

I think some people like to say they don't watch TV just to seem smarter.  Well geez, thats how I learned about science and learned I loved it!

Twitter is amazing for 10 minutes after something happens... then the worst of twitter takes over.

I'm addicted to PBS, both for kids shows and stuff like NOVA, Frontline, documentaries, and the news.  I still watch my local news, too.  I guess I don't really need cable for that stuff, and most of the shows the wife and I like together are on the networks as well.  I pretty much have it for the sports.  Mainly Grizzlies basketball, Charles Barkley on TNT, and college football.  Oh, and Family Guy re-runs as I fall asleep.

I find I love getting caught up in a story - it could be tv, movies or books - fiction, non-fiction - doesn't matter.  I don't necessarily feel like i am doing nothing when I am engaged in what's on.  I like to be entertained and watch plenty of silly comedy but can easily be drawn into interesting topics on PBS or our local public broadcaster.  I adore cooking shows that actually teach me something.

But what I don't like is spending all of my non-working time in front of the tv and am one of people who don't have cable (we do have an antenna and get a surprising amount of channels).  One of the reasons I loved taking up running and tri is that I had something else to do that got me off my butt and not sitting either in front of the tv or wasting hours surfing the internet. For me I definitely need to limit my exposure otherwise I would be a complete bump on a log.  I guess it's the opposite problem.
