I always see this in various threads and always look for them. For someone who is new to training but not new to the weightloss world it's encouraging to see when others begin succeeding.

What was your pre-tri training weight? Current? How long? (if you know body fat throw that in there too)

 started May 2008 @ 251

current @ 238

I'm hoping with good eating this propels me into the body I've wanted. I'm much happier with tri training - i can definetly tell you that!!

and as a gift to myself I'm going for body fat testing.

your turn!

Hi Latrina,

Pre-tri weight:  223 lbs. / over ~40% bf

Current weight: 178 lbs. / ~25% bf

I have to give credit to Weight Watchers as well.  I was training for about six months and didn't see a single pound come off the scale.  As soon as I added WW, it all clicked.  That was 15 months ago.

Good luck in your training!

Pretraining 264 June 2007

Current 220

Along with the training I found myself eating better, but not perfect. Back in 2003 I did the Atkins and was as low as 204, but on my 6'-6" frame was too skinny. Ideally I think 215 is right for me.

Even though I should have done this before training and tris, i'm goin in for my first physical in roughly 10 years next week. Hopefully everything is good.

Pre-training weight - 174 (January 2004)
Current weight - 144 (July 2008)

I reached my original goal weight of 145 in June of 2005. It took a while to get rid of 30 pounds, but I have kept it off for three years

Start - 277 (10/2007)

Current - 230

I am stuck at 230 right now. I think I hit a plateau after tapering for the RI 70.3 as I have been this weight for the better part of a month now. Frustrated!

I find inspiration and motivation in these, too...

I weighed myself just prior going to visit my parents over the week of the 4th of July, and was at my heaviest ever--around 265.  The week after I got home, I started swimming at the local Y.  Googling for swim workouts led me here... and this site has been great for keeping my motivation up.

I'm down around the 250 mark, so far.  Still a long way to go, though... but I feel like I'm on my way there--and to who knows what, beyond?

April 2003 253 probably 50+% body fat
Now 157 down 97....19.5% body fat

Hope to drop down to 14.5-15% body fat by next tri season..but it is tough going now..my goal is to ride lots 5-6x a week 2-5 hours a day for a couple months and eat clean...makes a big calorie deficit.

Well...when I quit smoking in August of 2007, I weighed 194 lbs., and by the time I started training for triathlons in December of 2007, I went up to 210 lbs. and I had a BMI of 26%. So my body was 54.6 lbs. of fat. I met a nutritionist who classified me as a skinny "fat" person because I looked skinny being 6'3", but I had a BMI of over 25%.

Currently, I weigh 204.5 lbs. and have a BMI of 23% (so as of today, my body has 47 lbs. of fat). My BMI usually fluctuates between 21% and 23% depending on my hydration level. So since I started training, I have lost a total of 7.6 lbs. of pure fat. Now, keep in mind that all of these numbers are taken from a tanita scale with the electrodes to measure my BMI (I wish I had access to a water tank). I have found that you need to be well hydrated or you will have drastically different readings on the tanita scale. I am pretty religious about checking my weight and BMI at the same time every day.

I started to train for triathlons with the idea of loosing weight and to get back into shape. After the last 8 months of training, my goal is no longer to drop weight, but to drop my BMI to less than 20%, this will take a long while I think.

I don't know if this what you were looking for, but I don't think anyone should get hung up on weight. You can be skinny and look good but have a high BMI and not be able to run more than 6 minutes at a time without being breathless. This is where I was when I started training and I am much happier now, not being too much lighter, but a whole heck of a lot healthier and a very happy Clydesdale!

Pre-tri (after 2 babies and post-partum depression) 230

Lost 30 pounds on weight watchers, increased exercise, started training for tri last year and lost another 20+ pounds, lowest weight 178 (one year ago today).  Now I am fluctuating between 184-187 which is really frustrating...but I am trying to keep looking at the big picture and knowing that it will eventually drop again. It's just been a long plateau!  I'm tall, busty and really muscular, so I look like I weigh less....at least that's what people say to my face!    I want to get to 170 before breast reduction surgery this off-season, although may settle for a healthy BF% which I am close to.

June 1, 2007 I was probably just over 260lbs

Today I keep bouncing between 180 - 183lbs, would like to be down to about 175, still working on it.

This should give you an idea of the progression. Progression Gif

my weight lose story been an interesting one I think.

start at 310 went down to 300 for the marathon in 2004

2005 I went up to 325 lbs by my last marathon.

2006 I was able to get down to 290

2007 I went up 10 more lbs back to 300

2008 I am down to 255 and I hope to drop to 225 by the end of the year.

My running buddies are amazed with how fast I am starting to become. I hope to run 10 min - 9 min miles for my long runs by the end of the year. once winter comes it will be nice to have someone I can run with.

I am 42 years old and started training for my first Tri right after I turned 41.  I have struggled with weight issues since I was 14.  I think there were a few years, when I was 16 to 19 that it wasn't a problem.  I was a hostess and then a waitress in a restaurant and I was very active.  Then, at 19 I got an office job and weight has been a problem ever since.

Last Year:  I weighed 219 in January 2007 and got down to 208 before my first Tri in April 2007.  By the end of the year, I had gained almost all the weight back.

This Year:  I weighed 217 in January 2008.  I'm am currently down to 183.6.  So, that's over 33 pounds.  I had a Tri in June and I'm signed up for another one in October.

The difference this year is that I have trained much harder, changed my eating habits and become much more serious about training and weight loss.  I bought a Bodybugg and started the program 2/29/08.  It's the most incredible tool and has truly helped me to succeed.  It tracks all the calories you burn, you download it to the computer, then enter all the food you eat and try to manage to a specific calorie deficit every day/week.  For those interested, I got it at 24 Hour Fitness.  You can go to their website and read about it and/or purchase one.  I know I will not repeat last year's gain back of my weight.  With my Bodybugg, I truly feel for the first time in my life that I will reach my goal and I will never be obese again.

My goal is to get under 160 pounds (then re-evaluate) and I am on track to do that by Thanksgiving.  I will truly have something to be thankful for this Thanksgiving by taking better care of myself and getting down to a healthier weight and eliminating a lot of the risk associated with being obese.  I am so excited everyday!!

Here's a quote I read on this site a while back "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels."  I took a step further and my quote is "That donut will only taste good for a moment but being thin feels good all day."  If donuts aren't your thing, substitute cake, chocolate, candy bar, hamburger and fries, whatever it is that you love that is making you fat.  Truly, it is not worth lugging around all that extra weight for the short amount of time that you will savor that taste.  Getting thin and healthier is finally worth more to me than the taste of fattening food.

Good Luck to all of you in your weightloss efforts!!!

2004 I was 220 after the birth of my third.  I started working out and cutting my calories in January/February 2006 and dropped to 165. Started to train for tri's in January of this year and went from 165 to anywhere between 150-153 depending on the day.

It has been one year ago this month when my tri addiction began. Starting weight was 328 and I could barely run/walk a 15 min mile and biked 11.8mph. Now one year later I'm down to 240 and just set personal records yesterday in a sprint tri with an 8.27 avg run per mile and 21.4 on the bike. I'm 39 and in the best shape of my life. Completed my first Olympic 3 weeks ago and was super pleased with my time and hope to do a 70.3 early next year. Believe to achieve!!
