Rainy and cold in Boston tonight. It's going to be a long, brutal game.

Let's not forget the real winners of the series: EVERYONE because Tim McCarver is retiring from broadcasting after this season! Now if we could only get Joe Buck to join him. God help us all if they bring in Bobby Valentine as his replacement.

Sox bullpen is pretty beefy. 33 innings, 3 ER in the playoffs so far. STL, 28 innings, 7 ER. Besides losing Ortiz in one game maybe in STL, the Sox have a deep bench that should play well with NL rules. I see one game with the winner getting above 6 runs, everything else I think is going to be low scoring with runs at a real premium. Sox have won 8 straight WS games... 4 against STL.

Sponsorships pay megabucks, so they'll have to play game 7.  My thoughts.

First off - I really, really *hope* the Cards win. Let's make that clear.

As for a prediction: these two are so evenly matched it's very difficult to pick. The Cards have been pitching lights-out. Especially their bullpen. However, the Sox have had such clutch at-bats it's impossible to discount that. If it goes 7 games it will be the Sox. If the Cards win it will need to be in 6 or less. No team wants a game 7 in the opponent's home field.

In the "Things that don't matter" category is: who did what in past WS match-ups. It's fun to talk about but has zero bearing on the outcome of this series. For example, 2004 - the Sox were the hottest team in baseball at the time - firing on all cylinders. The Cards limped into the WS with their pitching running on fumes. This is not the case in 2013. Both teams are coming in strong this year.

Either way, I *don't* think it will be over in 4 or 5 games. It should be a great series. BTW, the Sox are my favorite AL team. Parents are from Boston - went to college in N.E.... lots of friends and family in N.E. However,... GO CARDS!!!

Go redbirds.  SO many fond memories going to the park as a kid with my dad, then later with my friends, and even for a date or two.

Fenway is baseball's oldest park opened in 1912, about a week after the Titanic sunk. It is such a cool stadium. A few years ago my son, my daughter and I saw the Red Sox play at Fenway. My daughter's favorite part of the whole experience was the 7th inning stretch when everyone sang “Sweet Caroline….bump, bump, bah!” I can still hear her singing and giggling.

I'm not a sports fan but will probably watch tonight just to remember that game my kids and I went to.

Re: Fenway. My parents said that when they were kids (a looong time ago) they could take the T to the game and sit in the bleachers for a nickel. Yup, a nickel. My dad met Ted Williams twice.

Last summer (Fenway's 100 th year!)we were on a family vacation during the week of the 4th in MA, and our hosts (good friends) had some connections... they surprised us with two tickets to a Sox/Yankees game!!!! Lower section, along the right field line close to home. I took my then 9 yr old son to the game. We'll never forget that night!

Needless to say: Bush Stadium isn't a bad place to catch a game or two and we have a few baseball memories from there as well ;-)

SO looking forward to this series! GO CARDS!!

Got offered tickets to tonights game. $350/each for bleacher seats. I missed out on 04 and 07, and now I have a kid, so looks like I miss out on 2013 too. They do ok when I stay away from Fenway though.

Didn't see that coming. What an ugly game by STL. You can't give any team an extra out in the playoffs and not pay for it. I hate to see Beltran get injured like that. I hated to see him make that catch, but you never want to see a guy get worked like that. This kid starting for STL tonight just got a lot more pressure put on him to win and not go back home down 2 games. Let the sleep deprevation continue!

With only a truly betting interest in this series, I don't really like either team. I took the Sox -1.5 on the run line for +170 so I am very happy with last night's outcome. Today I am leaning towards the Cards on the normal money line which this morning is -105 for the Cards and -112 for the Sox.

+1 on Joe Buck.   I don't know why but it drives me nuts when he's commentating on a game.

Go to Mike Shannon's or somewhere like that to watch the game....wear your jacket....if you are an outgoing person you'll have a blast!  This is a baseball town, and we treat baseball fans from every team like old friends.  And we like our beer a bit too.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
