So I've been riding my bike without socks. No issues. But the run, I get some stinky feet(for me anyhow!) And I just don't like the moist feeling from not wearing socks.

Does it matter? Is it all about personal preference?

X2.

I always wear socks in training - bike and run.

I never wear socks for riding unless it gets pretty chilly out.

For running, though, it's all about the shoes. I prefer not wearing socks, but some shoes will just tear my feet up (so I'm ultra careful about shoe selection). It's a good idea to go sockless in training at least occasionally if you're planning on racing sockless, though. Otherwise, it's just a matter of preference.

Personal preference. Will increase T1 or T2 (depending when you put on your sox.).

Why would it be anything but personal preference? If you don't like it, don't do it. There are no sock police.

Cool

Sprints = no socks .. but you need to practice to get used to it if you have always used socks.  I like it because it's a little faster.  I always put some baby powder in my bike shoes and run shoes and it seems to absorb the wetness pretty good and helps with the stinky feet too.

Definitely true. I wear socks on the bike as well as the run and probably always will (for a couple reasons I won't bore everyone with) and I accept the fact that it will cost me a bit of time in T1.

Only done sprints so far - I never wear socks. If being sweaty and smelly is a concern, you're really in the wrong sport
But as others have said - baby powder in your shoes will help with the sweat.

I've been going sockless recently, and I've had no problems so far, other than my Lab has a strong attraction to my feet and shoes.  He eats deer poop too.

Sprint/Oly = no socks.  Although I have gotten blisters from not wearing sock during the oly run.  Anything longer, no socks on the bike, socks on the run.

But its all preference and what your feet can handle.  Like Bear said.  As usual.

x3 on the baby powder.  No socks for sprint/oly on the run.  Never on the bike (except when it is cold).  Baby powder in both biking and running shoes.

I put on socks in T1. At most it's an extra 20 seconds, and usually I find at the finish for Olympic distance that the times are spread far enough apart that it doesn't matter (at least in the top 10%). If it was the difference between prize money or not, I'd go no socks.

A run of 10 miles or more is my "need socks" distance. Gold Bond powder or Tinactin powder works great for the stinky part.

I don't mind being stinky and sweaty. I just don't like it when my shoes don't clear up! I can take a shower!

Hmm, I have no issues going sockless but I prefer socks. So think I'll stick with the socks...

I never wear socks on the bike (any distance - sprint or Ironman); I always wear socks on the run.

I race the way I train - with socks. With practice I have gotten very fast putting them on using the rolled up method. I put them on in T1

I also never wear socks on the bike, but I always wear them on the run. I figure it only takes me an additional 10 seconds to put them on, and I can make up that 10 seconds on the run since my feet are more comfortable.

I like that line of thinking. I put them on in T1, but, yes, I'm sure that the comfort they provide during the two legs more than makes up for the seconds spent rolling them on (not to mention the whole odor protection thing).

You obviously have never smelt my old running shoes!!!  Those things reek!

moisture wicking socks are they way to go for me...

I don't particularly care for the sockless feel...

I had problems with my running shoes developing a blister near my arch while going sockless.  The cure....... before the race, I would put a piece of duct tape on my arch on both feet, covering that area.  No blisters and it would make it easier to get my feet in the shoes. Oh, and the duct tape didn't come off or loosen during the swim.
