Subject: Halloween Run (walk/water run/elliptical) Challenge - Mk II

Yes its back again – Id like to say bigger and better than ever… but really it’s the same as last year hopefully just as silly, just as chaotic and just as crazy!

If you weren’t around last year we has around 140 participants last year with an over whelming majority of participants hitting and even exceeding their goals.

Heading into the off season, the marathon/running season is about to start so this challenge is about keeping you active and on track (unless you live in my part of the world then its racing season and game on!)

The goal as always is to get everyone to reach their goals for the month through team support, inspires, motivation… whatever it takes really. And knowing any slack behaviour on your part will affect an ENTIRE team of people really with the accountability!

As always its all about FUN FUN FUN!!!! SUPPORTIVE FUN!

So here is how you get in on the action (the basics):

1)   Post below your intention to participate

2)   If you know your run/walk/elliptical/water run goal in EITHER distance or time post it at the same time

3)   Come back to the challenge forum at the end of the month where the team line ups will be posted and the team threads set up

4)   Once you know your team – join your team thread and meet your team mates

5)   Start running, start posting and start sledging (banter, trash talking) with the other teams

6)   Weekly (or more often) update your team google spreadsheet (links and details will be posted in the team threads) with your results to date and see whether your team is on track to win (I will post a couple of updates during the challenge)

7)   Teams are competing for the HONOUR OF WINNING!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Running can be very tough on the body, particularly your joints. The fastest way to an overuse injury is to ramp up your run volume or intensity too quickly.

IF you are unsure on how to set your goal for this challenge I suggest one of the following methods:

1)   If you have a plan quote the time/distance on the plan and use the challenge to keep you accountable

2)   Look at the distance/time achieved in your last month of running and aim to add 10% to that over the month

3)   Look at your last week of running and aim to add 10% to that over three weeks + an easy week

4)   Aim to repeat your average weekly volume for consistency for each week of the challenge and work out a total based on that

Goals CAN BE INCREASED at any time… but I would prefer it if no one ended up with a long term injury just for a challenge!!! (But this is meant to be a challenge)

And now for the challenge rules and guidelines:

1. Teams will be assigned at random but any special requests will be honoured where possible

2. I will post the initial team line ups on Sep 30/Oct 1. Late additions will of course be more than welcome until the end of the first week (Oct 4)

3. The winning team will be determined but the overall % of goal achieved by the team. In the event of a tie, the winner will be decided by the amount of team members who reached their own individual goal. (Yes - more than one team can reach 100% and win)

4. Individuals cannot achieve more than 100% of their goal. But feel free to boast/brag about exceeding your goal all you like (and INCREASE your goal if you hit it too early)

5. Running, walking, elliptical and water running can all be included dependant on your individual training goals BUT they will need to be logged as a run in your training log

6. If its not in your training log it didn’t happen

7. If its not up dated in your teams google spreadsheet it didn’t happen

8. In the event of longterm illness or injury team members can withdraw from the challenge or amend goals. Goal reduction will be calculation as follows: Goal/31* number of days out of action.

9. Distance/times run in races count as part of your monthly total

10. Some VERY lively inter team ‘trash talking’ will take place (in fact I encourage it)….its entertaining, motivational and makes us all laugh. These are not personal attacks… If you read something that you think may be offensive take a time out – always assume that everyone is operating with the best of intentions.

So that a lot of words… to summarise, if you are in sign up below and I will find you a team before October!

Cat

I'm so in! This will be a crazy month with some weekend activities getting in the way of getting tasered training. This will be just the thing to keep me on track!

I have to figure out my goals once I take a look at my schedule. I definitely need a team to keep me motivated. I tell ya, the visions of WCP&T definitely kept my running mojo on in September! Oh, and half-naked boys or girls is always a bonus. LOL!

Thanks Cat - much appreciated!

I'm in.  I don't know what my goals are yet, but I have a lot to do before my marathon at the end of the month.

I'm here because I'm stalking Kristen, Judi and Sal.

Have to walk more than run until this hip is better.

Thanks for organizing the challenge!  Sounds like fun!!

Well, it's been awhile since I've been with you, and I am on the start of my 1st of my 2 20-week program, but I believe I can get 80 miles of running in for the month of Oct. and sticking to my plan.

The only drawback is that I prolly won't be as "talkative" this time around.

What ya say, SuperCat?

Me too, me too! Cuz I like to be where the action is, and we all know it's all about the challenges. And I need to be held accountable for what I say I'm going to do. Goal: 20 miles wralk.
