Driving to work this morning (in the dark)...... A lady running in all black and no reflectors on the right hand side of the road to the left of the white line. The only reason I saw her was because there was a little bit of reflective materian on the back of her shoe.The kicker is that the road is somewhat rough and hard to run on, and there is a perfectly smooth sidewalk a whole 4 feet to her right (and another on the other side of the road).

this thread reminded me of another strange denizen of the streets.

There is this old guy that lives in my apt complex who rides an electric wheel chair everywhere.  He uses it as his car and will ride it down the road (yes there are sidewalks) the mile or so to the grocery store.  He never stops to look for traffic or stop at stop signs.  He just pulls into the middle of traffic and usually stops long enough to give you a dirty "how dare you be legally driving on this street" look.

I have almost hit him two or three times, my wife has done the same and I have personally seen a handfull of other drivers almost hit him as well (I moved in in July).  I am very surprised he has lived long enough to need that chair.

I am SO pro bike, and I have to take the abuse when I ride, but when I saw a goof on a mountain bike, riding against traffic on a road w/little shoulder, in the dark of the morning w/out lights, reflective clothing, or a helmet, I felt like plowing into him/her just to do the world a favor. No wonder we sometimes get a bad name.

So.... When i'ts all of you or us in the road hey that's okay we have RIGHTS but when your in your in your cars man these people should ride or run somewhere else???? don't get it????

I don't look at it that way.  I try to ride legally on the right side of the road, with a helmet, lights on like Christmas time and wear light clothing or a headlamp if running in the dark. 

It is dangerous enough out there with all that on, couldn't imagine doing it without any lights and just tempting fate.  I feel like I am doing that just by commuting most days.

It is called common sense.  We have rights, but guess what that car weighs a couple tons more than I do and all the rights in the world don't heal my bones up if I get hit for doing something stupid!
