Subject: Can you recommend a tri saddle?

Folks,

I just bought a Cervelo S1 and an additional seat post. I am going to leave one as a road set up and one as a tri / TT set up. some backup info:

I have never had a tri bike or aero bars.

I was riding a Trek pilot. I put 7700 miles on it in 3 seasons and it still has the original Bontrager saddle.

I don't think this is a high tech saddle and certainly not anything special.

What would be a good saddle to start with?

I understand this is an individual question, but I am guessing that I don't have any unique need that would drive a special saddle.

I have the Fizik but I'm thinking of changing.  I might try the new Cobb saddle but we'll see.   They offer a 180 day comfort guarantee.  Seems like a good deal but I'm curious about the weight and other specs.  Below are a couple of links you might want to check out.

I went on the inexpensive side with a Forte saddle from PerformanceBike.  It's been great.  You can get a 20% discount thru today (code 524) and free ship-to-store if you live near a retail store -- this saddle will set you back a whopping $36 + tax if you use the discount today.  Not much of a gamble at that price.

My current bike came with a Fizik saddle that was a bit to rounded and was causing numbness. I replaced it with a Specialized Alias which has a cutout design. Not as pronounced as the Adamo but enough to cure my ails. I've spent up to five hours at a time on it and am very comfortable.

I didn't have any issues when I was riding my old RB, but when I went to the tri-bike 20 minutes max is all I could stand in the aero position before I would have numbness issues.  I bought the ISM Adamo saddle and haven't had any problems since.  A local shop had a demo seat that I tried out first.

I have specialized tritip sl saddle, that fits pretty well.  But recommend the one that fits your booty.  If possible go to a bike store and try some out everyone is different.

A great article on saddle comfort and another review of tri specific saddles from Bikesport Michigan. Both are worth the read. In the interest of full disclosure, I've ridden the Profile TriStryke and the ISM Adamo. The Adamo wins, hands down (nuts down? ).

Another vote for the Adamo. I have the 'ISM Adamo Racing Saddle' Took a few rides to dial in the position. There's a slightly softer version: ISM Adamo Road Saddle.

Before this I tried the Profile Tri-strike, but it didn't work for me. Was actually worse, since it blocked off more blood flow to my legs.

I never had problems with a 'normal' saddle on a road bike, you might not in a tri position...it's all very individual off course.

And it's true, good tri stores will let you test a few saddles...find out what works for you!

Good luck!!!

I bought a new Trek this summer.  The factory saddle made me feel like I'd been given a prostate exam after about 20 minutes.   I bought the Adamo racing saddle and have no more problems.

Ditto the ISM Adamo, or one of the new Cobb Cycle saddles--the V-Flow or V-Flow Plus (cobbcycles.com).

I hated the stock saddle that came with my bike, Giant Trinity.  I switched to the Forte Tri Saddle from Perfomance Bike as mentioned above.  It was less than $35 on sale and it has been great.  I have no more discomfort issues.

I couldn't stand the Adamo (poked my hammies), but recently ordered a v-flow from cobbcycling.com and absolutely love it.

3 x 1hr trainer sessions in the aerobars so far with no problems (downright comfy, in fact), and to top it all off it enabled me to remove the last few spacers from my fork and get even lower.

I've gone through numerous saddles, this is hands-down the best.

The Cervelo TT (Selle Italia SLR T1) that came with my P2SL is just about the best saddle I have ever ridden on.

Adamo. I have the road version - it's a little cheaper and a little more padding than the race version. And it's red and matches my bike. Win win win.

I'm on my second Adamo saddle since I loved the first one, but now that I'm riding on the trainer I can't stand it,,Then again I'm taken a couple of spacers out to get more aero so I might have through off my position so thats the reason I have  absolutely no comfort at all, and I just might switch the position back to see or get another saddle

this might sound like different advice when you are asking about saddles, but have you had a bike fit done??  if the bike is fit well that makes a big difference in saddle...

Do any of you that ride the Adamo saddle have any problems with the saddle rubbing the inside of your legs raw.  One of my buddies has this saddle and said thats what happened to him due to the wider front of the saddle.  I'm building my tri-bike right now and haven't decided on the seat.

He is likely sitting too far back. The "front of the saddle" is where you sit. There is no nose on an Adamo, so your parts should be off the front.
