Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just called my insurance carrier to find out the extent of the benefit for seeing a dietician. NOT COVERED. So, the insuranc company would rather pay for the consequences of my poor diet than help me avoid the expense in the first place. That is SO...AWESOME. |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The insurance companies can make more profit by regulating payouts to providers and pocketing the difference when they increase rates. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() <sidejack> When I inquired about a new policy recently I was told that a) they would not cover any treatments for a certain preexisting condition AND b) my rate modifier was 2x becuase of said condition (that they are not covering) WTF? Charge me more or don't cover me. Don't do both... that should be illegal... (and for the record it was not anything that would have affected other medical issues. It was isolated and not a contributor to any other possible medical issues. I could kind of understand it if it was a heart issue or such...) </sidejack> |

That is SO...AWESOME. dont' worry there will be no such thing as private insurance very soon Can I just say that I got in/out of the DVM... and the Lewisville Courts for a ticket... FASTER than I have EVER gotten out of ANY Dr.'s office. Just saying that privatie insurance it not all it's made out to be. I'm not treated like a queen in any Dr's office I walk into. Making a dentist appointment? Oh, get ready to wait 3 weeks or more. Need to see a dermatologist? Yep, get ready to wait 3 weeks or more. Not that the goverment running things would be perfect (and the bill does not SAY that the goverment will run everything! It's a replacement for Medicare/Medicade)... but private business isn't doing such a great job of it. |

Per the bill, health insurance companies would not be able to do this to you. Wouldn't that be nice? |

I posted the bill in another thread... it deals with the whole if you stay with your private insurance, but that private insurance goes away part, if I"m reading it right |

Ironically the ins. co I have now with my job will cover stop smoing aids 100%. That would be the benefit of competition in the private sector... The problem with "competition" in the private sector is that the consumer, that is, the entity that is making the choice is YOUR EMPLOYER, not you. Since the employer is the customer, rather than the patient being the customer, the insurance company's goal is to make the employer happy. They do this through low premiums. Service is a relatively low priority, as is making the patient happy. Now, if the patient had true choice between plans, then competition might do something to improve care. Well isn't the choice that you go with the government plan... or the plan being offered by the company? Isn't that what the bill is saying? So, if you have cr@ppy health insurance at work, you don't sign up for it... and thus the insurance company has less people paying premiums.... less business as do the Dr's who work with that insurance company. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Go to any county fair and you will get a taste of what average America is turning into. Another great example is at Disneyworld. Compare the International Tourists with those from America and the lifestyle choices are beyond obvious. The following were selling like crazy at the fair this weekend: Chocolate covered Bacon Deep Fried Twinkies/Snickers Elephant ears, cotton candy etc. I am not saying everyone should fit into the same box, but there is a balance. Another great example. I was reading a history book on my local town with lots of photos. It did not hit me at first, but there was not one obese person in any of the photos that were taken in late 1800's early 1900's. Too many reasons to get into, but this was another eye-opener. |

Refillable with anything from their tap. I don't remember seeing that many larger folks ever! Not even at the All You Can Eat Buffets! No kidding. I was at a movie theater with the family this weekend. This is not a place that I go often. I got tasked with ordering some popcorn & drinks. Didn't really think about the size when I ordered each of the kids a medium soda. Holy cow, those things were big enough to fuel me for an IM. Then the real downside hit when I missed half of the movie taking my youngest to the bathroom four times during the show. |

Champion![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm going to call BS on the dietician being the issue for the weight problem. The vast majority of Americans couldn't afford a dietician, or the insurance that would give you coverage that would enable a dietician, and there are plenty of fit Americans that don't have dieticians. Further, it's not a legislative issue....the government doesn't make us eat or exercise in a certain way. And it's clearly not an insurance company issue, they just try to make it a better deal for us and them to do what we choose. Same with fast food companies, which everyone want to blame....it's not their fault. It's a personal responsibility issue. To get healthier, it's pretty simple, but most people won't accept this responsibility, for whatever reason. - Ride your bike, the rest of the world does. And walk (or run), everywhere you can. Or swim. Or whatever. - Keep hobbies that are healthy for the mind and body. Step away from the video games. - Eat something healthy. Our labeling system rocks, FWIW. And no culture has the available selection of fresh fruts and veggies we have in the US. - Don't eat the entire On the Border Wet Burrito Platter. That's too much food. Real portion sizes, real food. It's absolutely no secret how we got where we are. And the solution is the same as it was 100 years ago, 10 years ago...stay active, eat well in moderation, and *poof* good to go. |
