Does anyone have any tips for drying out running shoes.  My shoes are still soaked from Friday's run and it is extremely humid and they are not drying.  I need to run later this afternoon and was wondering if anyone has any clever tips to get them dry in the next 7 hrs.  No sunshine today so the obvious set them in the Sun isn't the answer.

Thoughts?

7 hrs is tough but stuffing newspaper in them works for overnight drying.  If they are really soaked you might have to change the paper once also.

Stuff them full of newspaper.  You will probably have to take out the first  wad after 2 hours and re-stuff them.  They newspaper will suck all the dampness right out of them.

Get a box fan or use one you already have at the house.
Turn it on low and angle it partially down.
Put the shoes in front of the fan with the toes away from the fan.
They'll dry out in very little time even if it's humid.

I do this with both running and biking shoes. Just leave them in front of the fan and you'll always know where to find them as well.

Stuff them full of newspaper, and if you have one, put them in front of the dehumidifier.

Take the laces out and lay them on their side in front of the refridgerator.  You get a warm stream of air there and it will dry them quicker than with newspaper and not as harsh as in the dryer.  It still takes a few hours but it is not as hard on the shoes as some other methods.

Been doing it for years with my shoes as well as the kids.

Take the inserts out. Leave them indoors, where there is air conditioning.

I can't remember what the scientific explanation is, but drying your shoes in the sun actually makes them stink. I have experienced this for myself (kept washing the shoes to get the stink out and putting in the sun - they just kept getting stinkier). Also, the sun/heat can compromise the glue that holds your shoes together. Dry indoors with air conditioning.

There are tons of folks at my workplace that have these little space heaters year round.  I just borrow one and make the entire office stink.

Careful doing this as the heat can breakdown the rubber on the soles.

Trix doesnt have to worry about that as the mileage she puts in wears her shoes out by the week anyway

The permanent fix for this is to have more than one pair of shoes....

You lay your kids on their side in front of the fridge?

Well said. I usually rotate a few sets, especially with the rain we experienced in New England this year.

The stink is what makes me put them in the sun.
