Subject: A salute to those who struggle during the swim.I'm a decent swimmer and use to wonder about all the back strokers, side strokers, and even complain about the breast strokers. Use to marvel at people on the beach that were petrified about the upcoming swim, and also thought about the many posts on this site about panic attacks, swim worries, and general fear regarding the swim.
Then yesterday, as my wave was catching up to the wave in front, I passed several swimmers doing everything they could to finish the swim. Then it hit me, these were remarkable people. They probably dreaded the swim, but they weren't going to let that stop them. For many of us, triathlon is all about the personal challenge. When the challenge also includes overcoming your fears, it raises it to another level.
For those of you who are afraid of the swim, struggle with the swim, or hate it, but overcome it anyway, I salute you. It's a privilege to be in the race with you.
