It's back!  And it's scarier and spookier than ever before!

Halloween Run Challenge - Year #3

This year, we have THREE co-organizers for THREE times the terror "motivation":  SuperCat (kaqphin), Lisa (losta) and I (EvilDee) will be joining up to whip, cattle prod and taser everyone.

Now doesn't that sound like fun???  Surprised

YOU define "running."  Does it include walking, elliptical work, jogging, skipping, crawling?  Define it, and plan your goal accordingly.

To participate:
Reply to the thread below.  Do NOT state your goal at this time.  Only tell us that you want to participate.  (Later on, I'll set up spreadsheets, and you can enter your goal directly on it.)

This will be a  Team Challenge.
Teams will be assigned randomly.  However, teammate requests will be honored whenever possible.  If you have a request, just state it when you reply below.  Then, come back to this thread at the end of the month to see what team you've been assigned to.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Running can be very tough on the body, particularly your joints. The fastest way to an overuse injury is to ramp up your run volume or intensity too quickly.  Please remember this when setting your goal, or participating in the challenge.

If you are unsure on how to set your goal for the challenge, the following may be helpful:
1)   If you have a plan, list the time/distance on the plan and use the challenge to keep you accountable.
2)   Look at the distance/time achieved in your last month of running and add no more than 10% to it.
3)   Look at your last week of running, multiply by 3 and 10% to that over three weeks.
4)   Aim to repeat your average weekly volume for consistency for each week of the challenge and work out a total based on that.

At the end of the month, the winning team will be the team with the highest completion rate.

The winning team(s)
will display a signature line:  "My team won the Annual Halloween Run   Challenge!"

All other (losing) teams will display an avatar with a "Running theme."  (For example:  You running, your shoes, your treadmill, the route you normally take when you run, etc.)

Avatars and signature lines will be displayed for the month of November. After that, it's your choice whether to leave it, or remove it.

Team spreadsheets will be put on Google Spreadsheets.  Each team member will  update his/her own info.  However.....

Each team will select a team captain.  The team captain will be responsible for making sure that each team member updates the spreadsheet by the reporting dates, and/or will enter information for people who are unable to update the spreadsheet directly.

The Challenge will begin on October 1st, and end on October 31th.

In the event of injury/illness, you may request to be dropped from the challenge, without penalty.

If you achieve 100% of your goal before the month is over, you may request to raise your goal.
Running, walking, elliptical and water running, etc. - It can all be included, depending on your individual training goals, BUT they will need to be logged as "running" in your training log.

All training must be logged on the spreadsheet by SATURDAY at midnight, your time. If it’s not logged and reported, it didn’t happen!  Please note: The week will end on Saturday.  This will allow me to compile the results on Sunday.

Smack talking:

-- Smack talking is not mandatory, but may be done.
-- Smack talk is different from a personal attack. If you aren’t sure what the difference is, err on the side of caution and do not post the comment. (Keep in mind that real people are reading your comments!)
-- Smack talking is not to be taken personally. If you get upset about a post, ignore it and move on.
-- If you find a post offensive, and cannot simply ignore it: Walk away from the computer until you feel better, OR better yet, go for a good workout. A hard workout does wonders for your perspective.

The ultimate goal of this Challenge is to push yourself in an activity (or activities), to work out, to meet fellow BTers (virtually or otherwise), and to have some fun!

Hopefully, this Challenge will give you a little extra incentive and motivation to succeed at your goals – whatever they may be.

Welcome to the Evil Halloween Challenge!

- EvilDee, Lisa and SuperCat
