My wife and I have signed up and I was just able to find a motel in walking distance to Okanagan lake, it was getting dicey as most places are gone and the ones left really up their prices and want a minium 4-5 night stay. We haven`t been contacted yet but we`re really looking forward to that weekend and especially the registration line up monday morning for 2011 (gulp).

I am thinking of staying in Oliver as I know some people there as my cousin's wife is from there.  I called one hotel in Penticton and they wanted a 6 day minimum. So I am thinking best out of town.

I'm signed up for the volunteering
1) Bike grabbing
2) Stripper
3) People catcher - 1700-2130

Sent them a note that I can two or even all 3 if needed. I can feel the good karma points filling me up!

My husband and I signed up on the same day.  He has already been contacted regarding catching, I haven't heard a peep yet.

We are staying at a motel in Summerland, that we have stayed at before, it's not ritz, but it's clean, has a kitchen, reasonable price and they only had a 3 night minimum stay requirement.

Hi Haz hope to see you up there I put down finish line as my third choice, I heard the late shift is the one in most demand I hope to do a couple of tasks too as a first timer I put aid station and finish line (Catcher).  My Girlfriend is in too for the Volunteering. I guess you aren't racing as you are doing CDA soon.

Does anyone know if they are still informing volunteers their assignments or have they finished by now as I haven't heard back from them and I think some got their e-mails a week ago.

I got my email not too long ago - stripper at your service!

Hmmm... that didn't really sound all that good, now did it?

Hi guys looks like I didn't make the volunteer cut this year I will try next year as I want to race in 2012 I think I may volunteer for a race or two next year for more experience like Scotia half and the Desert half.  Still doing a couple of runs this year but had a lot of stuff come up this summer still racing the RVM half and the perhaps the James Cunningham seawall race but next year I hope to do a half Iron and be ready.

I'd email them again. I have no idea what their system is like now, but I volunteered in 2003 and although I submitted my application early, I didn't get a response.

Finally a week before the race, I phoned them and they didn't have any record of my application, but needed me, for sure. I ended up marshalling the bike course.

If it is like any other event, volunteers pull out last minute or don't show up at all, so it is good for the organizers to have extra volunteers. Why don't you give them a call or fire off an email?

x2

I don't think there has ever been a year when they have turned away a volunteer. Although it may depend on what level of volunteering you would accept.

If you you can't secure a volunteer position but really want to be here, I can most likely get you onto a bike aid station. Let me know.
