Subject: Should Reggie Bush lose the Heisman?
Southern California has received a two-year bowl ban and a sharp loss of football scholarships in a report on the NCAA’s four-year investigation of the school.

The NCAA cited USC for a lack of institutional control Thursday in its long-awaited report, which detailed numerous violations primarily involving Heisman Trophy-winning tailback Reggie Bush and men’s basketball player O.J. Mayo.

The NCAA found that Bush, identified as a “former football student-athlete,” was ineligible beginning at least by December 2004, a ruling that could open discussion on the revocation of the New Orleans Saints star’s Heisman.

The NCAA also ordered USC to vacate every victory in which Bush participated while ineligible. USC beat Oklahoma in the BCS championship game on Jan. 4, 2005, and won 12 games during Bush’s Heisman-winning 2005 season, which ended with a loss to Texas in the Rose Bowl.

Wow, first Reggie Bush takes a paycut to go to the pros, now he loses his Heisman? What if he didn't know taking money in college was not allowed?

Wow, that's huge. They forfeit their national championship? That's much bigger than the Heisman.

I'm not a huge fan of going back and rewriting history once misdeeds are discovered after the fact, so I've got mixed emotions about it. Like someone else posted, now you give the trophy to someone else years later?

ETA: and what do you do about the championship? Give it to the team that LOST the game? Consult the polls of the end of the season? I'm confused.

Not quite.  It's vacated.  It's not given to another team.

Nice try though.

Was that before or after the OU players started "working" at the car dealer?

You know what... let him keep the Heisman.  Real punishment would be to make him date a Kardashian skank.

Auburn finished 2nd in the AP and Coach's Poll from the 2004 season. They were undefeated but shut out of the BCS Championship. I don't think they'd want it because they didn't really win it. Granted, it could be argued that USC won it because they didn't follow the rules but Auburn didn't play that game.

And X3 at Lane Kiffin. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

As far as the Heisman goes... I'm undecided. I'm leaning towards yes, he should lose it, because there is no way in he!! he didn't know the stuff (money or gifts) he received was against the rules.

Tommy Tuberville was on DFW radio Thursday and said the exact opposite.

That's because his contract with Auburn was to pay him a $300,000 bonus if he won the champonship.

I say strip him of the Heisman. Easy.

However, once you strip him and USC of the year's stats, you can't go back and rewrite history.

We all know in 2004 Auburn did a heck of a job running the table and then still they got left out. However, you can't go back and award them 6yrs later. It's done and over. But USC should definitely lose the credit, Bush should lose his award and then we should all laugh at Kiffen.

Now my question... Bush was wrong, yet the institution gets punished. IF he loses his trophy, then yes he gets punished, but if he doesn't, then he gets away free. Shouldn't there be some sort of punishment for the students that cause the problems for the institution? I mean, some sort of payment penalty, or bench time if they're in the NFL? I mean, it sends a message that they (student athletes) can do wrong, and not get punished.

Just my 2 cents though.

He should loose the trophy.  The 2005 Heisman winner should just be blank, just like the 2005 BCS winner.  It'll end up being a "lost year".

Really, by doing what he did, RB and USC screwed every single I-A college team's season...

Taking names off a trophy is meaningless.  Every player from every team that USC played knows that they did not beat USC (with the exception of Texas), and will never recognize that they beat USC because the NCAA deemed it a forfeit.  No one got more Heisman votes than Bush.  Now if the Heisman was held after the national championship game, this would not be an issue.
