Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() The thread in tritalk about meeting Scott Tinley (yes there are othere resources except COJ) got me wondering who have you met that are famous and what person was great and what person was a butt. I had 2 beers one time with Steve Vai, when I went to music school and CA and he was awesome. Randy Moss, is from my hometown and is one of the biggest losers I have ever met. |

Pro![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I sat next to Dick Clark in a bar in Chicago for about an hour. I didn't talk to him though, because I thought that would be rude. Of course I was the only one of this opinion, so everybody around approached him for pictures, autographs, hugs and kisses... I felt bad for the guy, he came in for a quiet drink, didn't make eye contact with anybody, and boom, his night was over. Said hello to Pierre Elliot Trudeau (most celebrated Prime Minister Canada has ever had), took a flight with Robert Carlyle (see The Full Monty) on the way to Utah (didn't stop to talk to him, either) he also avoided making eye contact. There's a great tradition of ignoring celebrities here in Montreal. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Almost 15 years ago I was a waiter in a nice Italian resturant and waited on Olympian Carl Lewis. IMHO, I gave him great service, he was an a$$, no tip at all. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() When I lived up near Mt. Hood Lindsey Wagner (the bionic woman) had a house in our neighborhood and we saw here frequently. She just seemed to keep to herself, but was pleasant. My dad met Lance Armstrong once up at the Oregon Cancer Institute and wasn't impressed. The nurses up there didn't have too many nice things to say either. But I still like him. His cancer fundraising is going to benefit a lot of people. I also went to high school with Damon Stoudamire. Yeah I know...who? My dad was his high school b-ball coach so he's always been pretty nice to us. I was 3 years ahead of him so I never really knew him that well. My sister dated Jerome Kersy a loooong time ago. He was a stand up guy except he certainly lived up to his name Jeromeo. Nobody from the tri world. Mark Allen gave a day-long workshop at our health club a couple of years ago but I had no clue at the time so I blew it off. Now I know. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I once saw Adam West in an airport in Denver while flying back from an away game. Of course I was the one who reconized him and said to my friend, "Isn't that Adam West, TV's Batman?" And sure enough in 15 seconds there were about 30 meatheads running around the denver airport yelling BATMAN BATMAN and pretending to be Batman in front of him and having them critique their Batman impersionation. To his credit he was laughing and having a good time with it. And in our defence we had been snowed in for about 36 hours and were going stir crazy. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Quite a few. Most aren't worth mentioning. The coolest was when I stepped off the monorail at the Contemporary Hotel in Disney World and Roger Daltrey was standing there with his kid. I was 17 and had seen them in concert a few months prior. I wigged. I tended bar for a while at a hotel bar in Boston in the theater district in the early 90's. Had a good number of well known people sit at the bar. The most memorable was one afternoon during the lull after lunch and before the after work crowd, the bar was empty and 5 guys wearing obviously expensive lounge/track suits and a lot of gold jewelry come in and sit down at the bar. It was The Temptations. This was when Melvin Franklin was still alive. I had just bought the book "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" about James Jamerson and they were so impressed that I knew who Jamerson was they told me stories about Motown in the 60's for 45 minutes. Great guys, very sociable and generous of spirit. hey GolfingGods did you talk bikes with Vai? He's supposed to be a huge hammerhead. |

![]() | ![]() I get to photograph celebrities once in a while. Here's my favorite celebrity photo. It's of Charles Barkley. It was for a story about Charles' possible political aspirations. I chose that ball 'cause I thought it tied together his two concerns, basketball and world affairs. Very nice guy. Very well read. Had a copy of Walden on his bookshelf. Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Every year for my birthday (Jan 19) my coworkers and I go out for Happy hour. A few years ago we went to Seau's. My friends give me a hard time because they say I look like Jr. Seau (only less attractive, in worse physical shape and a lot poorer). We were there having a drink when Jr came in with his friends. When his friends saw me they freaked. They made us stand next to each other and were amazed at how much we looked alike (same height and weight). Neither Jr. nor I agreed with them. The funny thing was it was his birthday too. We were exactly the same age. We laughed and started talking about football. We went to high school in different districts in the city but palyed the same position with the same jersey number as well. I have met other triathletes too but most are only famous in the tri community. |

Wife, Mother, Friend.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I walked by and said "hello Drew" to Drew Carey once at Pleasure Island on Disney. It was maybe 3am in the morning, we were heading out, he was coming in. It was fun, he had a group of friends. He waved hi back. So we go back to try to see him again and see if he goes to dance! Not five minutes later we saw him being chased and someone trying to tear off his jacket. I wish I was close enough to trip them. Yeah I've met TriTakeMeAway, TriComet, Sue and Renee. The BTiches Kendall even got a hug. And I"m not a huggy person. |
