Subject: olympics or kona?

My fiance brought up this question while watching the olympics. She asked if I ever wanted to be in them and I said no, I'd rather be a serious competator in Kona or in the tour.

So now here is the big question... What do you consider more impressive? Competing in the Olympics or in one of these other events? I don't want to hear "it's just a different competition and they are all impressive." Stop sitting the fence and choose one.

I see them as a major competition, but not the "end all" of competitions.

No doubt the Olympics. No doubt. To be a part of that entire spectacle. All the athletes from so many different sports. Representing your country . . . not just yourself. That is cool. To me anyway.

I've worked on the medical staffs at both the Winter Olympics and different Ironman competitions...and the Olympics win hands down.  Let's see....one day at Kona compared to 20 some days of being on a grand stage at the Olympics?  I'll take the 20 some days everytime!

Olympics. You have to earn your spot, where if you enter the lottery, anybody with $85 can get into Kona

I always dreamed of being an Olympian, ever since I was a little girl. Even now, at the age of 25, with virtually no experience or talent, I still tell myself, "Hey, 35 as an Olympic triathlete is good, right?" That gives me 10 years to go from 0 to best in the world.

I don't know, something about the Olympics is just really magical.

Have to go with the Olympics....something special about representing your country and racing with your name on your a$$.

This is why Worlds is a bigger goal for me than Kona. Worlds is about representing your country, how many people can say that they have been on a National Team vs. I can't tell you how many people I personally know that have done Kona. Plus like Madcow says anyone with $85 can get into Kona wheras you have to EARN a spot on the National Team.

yea i know anyone can get in with the lottery, that's why I said be competitive in Kona, as in earn your spot, but apply the same idea to the Tour.

Yea the olympics is something special and the hole specitcal of it would be cool to take part in, but in terms of an athletic acheivment, I think I'd still rather crank my way up the Alpe next to Lance

Winter or Summer Olympics?

My interest in the Olympics has faded, and are redirected toward Kona.  60lbs lighter and light years younger, would dream of the TDF.

Kona would be cool but to impress the hell out of someone it's the Olympics all the way.

Definitely the Olympics for me.

Maybe it's because for years the Olympics gave the west a window into the mysterious and frightening world of the Soviet Bloc. As a young person, that made watching the games really special.

For my money, the greatest moment in US sports history is the Miracle on Ice in the 1980 Lake Placid Olympics. Just being in Herb Brooks Arena ice rink now gives me goose bumps.

I would have to go with the Olympics!  There's something about dreaming about being the best in the world and standing up there with the American Flag going up and National Anthem playing would be KICK ASS!

Although I am a triathlete, I am still a cyclist at heart.  To me, the greatest competition of all is the Tour de France.  Men like Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault, Miguel Indurain, Greg Lemond and Lance Armstrong, among many other fantastic riders, pushed the boundaries of human endurance.  In my estimation, nothing beats the Tour de France for sheer drama, competitiveness, courage and human dignity.

Has to be the Olympics. Kona, TDF, is every year......the olympics is not. You have to prepare yourself even more and stay injury free for maybe two chances??

Yeah, the Olympics definitely.......especially if you bring home a medal!!!
