Subject: The 700 Club - April Bike Challenge

Daylight Savings Time starts Sunday morning, warm weather's here coming, time to put those trainers away and put in some real Time In The Saddle.

Looking at my schedule for the month, I've got several commitments that prevent me from being on the bike for at least five days, plus I'm training for a June marathon that makes every Sunday a run focus day. Not whining, bottom line is I probably can't make 1,000 miles as I thought, probably can't even hit 900 like last April, not without kim providing incentive. I do think 700 miles is achieveable, but very much a challenge, but I need to be pushed.

So I'm throwing down a personal challenge to all you mega-cyclists out there: who's up for a 700-mile month to kick of the cycling season? Daremo, Manatee, certainly jeng? Joel, Jorge, Johnny K?

I am IN! I am itching to go outside and log monster miles... HOWEVER I must clear this 1st with the coach. (Why hiring one if I am going to do whatever I want right?) I think 700 should be ok but I'll wait for his opinion. At least I would like to shoot for 600. Will that be enough?

(Not to sound like a whiner or anything but I am also going to do 4 swims and 4 runs a week so I don’t what to end up over trained )

Oooh how can I say no in the thread that names me.

Should I be the first to say that I'm in for all 700?

No, but you can be the second (Moi!)! C'mon guys, you going to let a GIRL out-do you? (Kindly ignore the fact that she is a studly queen of the bicycle and could kick our collective butts on the bike)

I'm in.  Good timing for this, I wanted to make April a big volume month.  Track by time instead of distance but typically average around 17.5 mph so 700 miles = 40 hours.

April goals: Bike 40 hours, Run 20 hours, Swim 10 hours.

Oh SNAP! Did I just get called out?I'm going to have to pass on this one. I've got a little run up in Boston that I'm kind of focused on for the next 3 weeks but after that I'm game for plenty of riding. Cycling is actually going to be my primary focus this season so I'd love some motivation to help log the miles. Everyone is welcome to come along on my 22 mile run tomorrow though

Actually, I put you in there because I figured it would help you survive your taper without going bonkers, then give you a remedy for post-marathon depression. Can't do 22 on a weekday (when do you work?) so I'll settle for 18 on Sunday. My 18 will take longer than your 22, though. Actually, my 18 will take longer than your marathon.

I get every other Friday off...which is nice.  My last long run is tomorrow and then I have a local duathlon on Sunday.  From there I'm planning a few 10-15 mile race pace runs and maybe a week of taper.  That 22 miler should take me about 2:55.  The marathon should take...well, I prefer not to make any predictions.  Let's just say it will be under 3 hours

My training schedule comes out tomorrow, but if you let T in Liberty Lake log in 40 hours instead of 700 miles, then I will try to do the same. Although I would have to ride like 45 hours to get the same distance as T

Yeah, 40-45 hours is an acceptable goal. What, you guys don't own a bike computer?

What, you guys don't own a bike computer?

Even with nice weather I'm forced to do some training on a trainer or stationary bike.  I can spin on a stationary bike for an hour and get it to tell me I did 25+ miles but in reality I know this is BS.  Therefore, I log everything by time.  Based on outside rides I know I don't go any slower than 17-18 mph.

I'm certainly not going to make any predictions here, but I'll do my best to try and crank out a 700 miler month ....... it's only been over 8 years since I've done that .......

F--k it, I'm in to try for it ......... ;-P

(Still going to have a lot of indoors to do though because of life - I can always long ride Saturday and then "short" ride brick my long slow run on Sundays).

Wife is probably not going to enjoy this coming month in many ways!

Yeah but that's because you only bike!

(I don't see any running on your logs for a while... that is of course if you are not injured or something, which in the case you are, here is where I shut my big mouth...)

After checking out my schedule, I think April will be fairly smooth sailing for me time-wise.  I'll take a shot at 700

We're experiencing a lot of rain and stormy weather here lately and it is forecasted to continue at leat through this week, so trainer rides could be on my intinerary off and on.  Just to clarify, do trainer miles count?

As long as you've got a rear mount sensor (or are riding rollers) then your computer will register mileage.

Some of my rides will be indoors (on the TT bike) so I know I'll be counting them!

Well then, I need to get with the 21st Century and pick-up a rear mounted sensor.

How'd I manage to get called out in this?  I don't think I'm part of the mega-cyclist club yet (working on entry later this year maybe).  The most I've logged in a month is a little over 300 a couple times.

I would like to focus on my biking this year (so I have a shot of keeping up with Joel until T2 ), but I think 700 would be a stretch for me this month--and probably knock the rest of my training for a loop.  I'm going to shoot for a PB of 400+ and hopefully build from there. But I'll be watching the real mega-cyclists for some inspiration.
