Subject: RE: Original or fake WendyMarvarnett - 2012-07-20 10:32 AM I like the new Wendy because she's fun and quirky. When they did the "real" Wendy, she was very boring and way too corporate. Had no life. It has nothing to do with her weight, she just didn't seem to have a personality (through the TV) so I publicist probably told her to stay off the big screen and let someone else handle it. Even Dave had personality (through the TV). For any of you who are old enough (like me) to remember, in the original commercials Dave Thomas came across as very stiff and uncomfortable. The folksy image was a marketing creation that came along later. Thomas had actually left the company and was brought as a spokesmanback to increase lagging sales (and to protect the share price of the stock - I'm sure that's "Wendy's" prime motivation also. BTW, her name is actually Melinda). FWIW, I actually met Dave Thomas back in the mid 60's before he founded the Wendy's chain. He was the manager of the Hobby House restaurant in downtown Ft. Wayne, IN, one of the very early KFC franchises. Mark |
