I have been seeing a lot of "Wendys" commercials. Some with the original Wendy and some with a fake one.  The original Wendy is a little on the heavy side while the fake Wendy is slim a perky. So, I was wondering who do you like best? It makes me wonder if the added the fake one because of original Wendys image or was it because she is just that busy that she can’t be in all the commercials.

I doubt that the real Wendy really wants to be in many commercials.

But it's rare that you see overweight people in fast food ads. Dave Thomas was an exception, since he was the owner/founder. And let's be blunt - a man. Men are allowed to be overweight in America. We're "big guys." Women are supposed to be rail thin, but still promoting baconators. They're also supposed to dress in Victoria's Secret 24/7, but never be seen breast feeding.

The cognitive dissonance on our culture's standards and expectations is enough to make one's head explode.

This was kind if my point. To find out if "Size" still matters to anyone. For me I think it does not. Based on the results I may be in the minority on this one. Thanks for your input.

You only touched on about 6 different hot social issues in one short paragraph.  Can't even respond...

Next time, throw in "the republicans think, and the chirstians believe, how to count laps and, should I strength train" in the same post and really hit all the issues.

ETA:  OH, and I have NO clue who the new wendy is.  Fast food commercials go in one ear and out the other, if I even see them since I DVR everything and fast forward through them all to even get upset or think much about it.

I like the new Wendy because she's fun and quirky.  When they did the "real" Wendy, she was very boring and way too corporate.  Had no life.  It has nothing to do with her weight, she just didn't seem to have a personality (through the TV) so I publicist probably told her to stay off the big screen and let someone else handle it.

Even Dave had personality (through the TV).

the commercials have two different messages...real wendy is there to say "we are still the same company my dad started and we still work hard to make good food for you."  fake wendy is to promote their new products and appeal to the audience that is just used to quirky trendy commercials.  i would guess there are gads of studies out there to validate the existence of both.  (same as why geico, for example, has several different active ad campaigns at a time.  once saw a very good talk from an exec at the martin agency about why companies do this.)

fake wendy reminds me on one of my sorority sisters, and people love calling her wendy.  she hates that.

For any of you who are old enough (like me)  to remember, in the original commercials Dave Thomas came across as very stiff and uncomfortable.  The folksy image was a marketing creation that came along later.

Thomas had actually left the company and was brought as a spokesmanback to increase lagging sales (and to protect the share price of the stock - I'm sure that's "Wendy's" prime motivation also.   BTW, her name is actually Melinda).

FWIW, I actually met Dave Thomas back in the mid 60's before he founded the Wendy's chain.  He was the manager of the Hobby House restaurant in downtown Ft. Wayne, IN, one of the very early KFC franchises.

The "new Wendy" reminded me immediately of the "this one time at band camp" actress from American Pie. Google shows her to be a different actress named Alyson Lee Hannigan. Anyone else notice the resemblance?I
