Raleigh half?

They are both on the consent agenda. If it runs like Knightdale, that means it is a quick vote on the whole thing unless someone moves to pull an item for seperate consideration. Looks like a nearly done deal.

According to the agenda packet it will be 2 transition areas, T2 is downtown after biking in from Lake Wheeler Rd. The run course will go to Meredith and onto the greenway where they will turn around at some point (steep hills) and finish in front of the Marriott.

I won't race this one, but it should be fun to watch.

ETA: They are calling it a "National Half Ironman". I don't know if that means anything.

Does WTC even look at a weather almanac before scouting sites for races?  I guess White Lake weather isn't warm enough a month earlier?

I will be keeping my $275 in my pocket for this one. I am not opposed to doing HIM in hot weather (already done it), but if I am going to do so, I am not dropping close to 3 bills for it. 

I just can't see this race being a big seller year after year.  Years 1-2, probably, years 3-4, doubt it.  But hey, if they can make it work, more power to them.

A lot of chatter about this here, on ST and even at work (got an email from a guy who never emails me, all excited about this). For at least a couple of years I think it will do well. I'm very tempted. To me, the commitment to train for a 70.3 (or 140.6) distance race warrants some kind of "event", rather than a small-race experience. I love the smaller feel of FSSERIES sprints and OLYs but have no desire for a small 70.3 race. But thats just me. :-)

Now, if it does well, and they double it to full IM in a few years...

Lookin' to expand from Argonman to Ironman eh? :-)

This should not be an issue.  Races do this all the time.

Probably a good shot at being wetsuit legal.  I did the FS Series Jordan Lake Open Water Challenge (1 mile swim) on June 17 of this year and it was wetsuit legal.

Could be, but this was a unusually cool june though (at least it was in CLT).  Would probably need a 3 year water temp to get a good idea on water temps.  Plus WTC used the 76.1 cutoff, not 78 like USAT.

Don't know how WTC does this but Setup handles it very well at Beach2Battleship. Basically they give you big ziploc bags with T1, T2, etc. on them. You put your T1, T2, etc. stuff in there and they make sure it is in the right place for you (it is all numbered and labeled etc). It seems complicated but goes very smoothly. You will set up your bike etc the night before at this race so on race day it becomes very simple.

You don't set up transition areas for Mdot (Ironman & Ironman 70.3) races.  All of your T1 and T2 items go in bags and they are arranged in order of bib # (usually lined up on the ground at the entrance to transition).

Much different than your local races.

May I also ask what your thoughts are about White Lake HIM and this potential course? I know WL can be so hot, and that's May so I'm worried about the heat factor for the Raleigh race. I'm just trying to decide which might be a better fit for me. Again, this newbie appreciate the help.
