If you could be a professional athlete in any sport, which would you choose and why? Assume that you'd be playing at the highest level of the sport with everything, good and bad, that comes with it.

Personally, I like the idea of playing pro baseball becaue players have long careers, aren't too beat up at the end, and make a ton of money, but the idea of playing professional soccer, especially in Europe, is pretty appealing too. Those guys are treated like gods.

Golf.  You even have a LONGER career.  Pretty easy on the body.  Got the senior tour.  pretty big pay day if you are top 10.

As for pure fun?  Probably NBA...

I would either go with baseball because I really enjoy playing the sport or football because it was the only one I was any good at.

And do the sport without getting juiced and then have to appear before some witchhunt committee and then have a tarnished record.

I've previously thought long and hard about this and feel that an NFL punter is the absolute best route. No matter what happens it is almost never your fault. Punt blocked you can blame it on the snap or lack of blocking. Shank job can be blamed on lots of outside factors as well, weather, snap, blocking, you were rushed. Returned for a TD, its not your job to tackle anyway. You control whether or not you get hit for the most part too.

You get paid very well and once you are in you probably have at least a 15 year career. The NFL is very funny about kickers and punters, it is probably the hardest position to break into in the league. Most teams would rather stick with there lower net average punter than go with the unknown.

There are almost zero negatives with the punter.

Golf; because they get paid the most for the least amount of physical work.  Minimal injury and career longevity is also a nice perk, plus I like the game.

A close second would be Baseball can't stand watching it though.

I'm going to follow Kido's lead. Golf, the ability set your schedule, more or less. If you are having a good week, you don't mind working the weekend, if you are having a bad week, you get the weekend free. win win

Tennis.  Travel the world and make a decent amount of money.  Careers ends fairly early and your not all beat up like some sports.

x3 on pro golf.  And I'd want want replacement clubs every time my wife damaged the driver while breaking glass on the Escalade.  "Babe, I didn't mean anything by 'You're the one,' honest.  I thought I was texting her about a caddy internship."

Without a second thought, golf.  I thought of playing on one of the amateur tours when I got my handicap down to a 3.5... and then got back into triathlon.

Look at people like Jack Nicklaus.  He still plays a great game... definitely longevity in that sport!  And the whole aspect of being able to be paid to play golf.  Even if I'm having a bad day, I still enjoy being on the course.

Hmm, this is a tough one.  There's a lot of Pro sports I'd love to play.

If I had to pick one though I'd probably go with golf.

I like the idea of baseball but I think the schedule and the travel would be grueling after a while.  I think I'd go with pro skier - either a racer or a sponsored extreme skier making movies.  Get paid to travel the world to some amazing places and have the whole summer off except for trips to Argentina or Chile or New Zealand to train.  I'd be ok with that.

No question -- cycling. When I was bike racing, there were small tastes of what it would feel like to top a big climb with a small lead group. Nothing in any other sport I've done has come close to that.

Second would have to be triathlon, in its early years. I would love to have made The Big Four into The Big Five.

Equestrian- Watching coverage of the Eventing in the Olympics made me seriously miss riding. I really miss that moment in the start box as the timer counts down and the thrill of galloping down to cross country jumps. <sigh>

An F1 Driver. Travel the world, cooks, fans, winters off, and sunset by the beach. Just once I would love the to feel a G3 turn, powering down a straight, and have another driver pass me just as I was thinking to myself " I dont think I can go any faster." Bring on the rush........

Great!  PGA Mike's choice just made me refuse to re-up my LFL season ticket status!

btw, if I had to choose, I'd be PGA Brian!  ...if only I had the golf talent that is required.  I will say I was really fired up about shooting a 46-46 yesterday!  My son and I had a great time.
