Welcome to the happy thread. Not for gloating, just a safe place to be happy about it. I was surprised that the presidential election was called so soon.

Now I watch for my local elections....

Me too. I was cautiously optimistic but still really nervous. I have a friend who works for a national pollster and she was pretty confident early on, so that was reassuring.

I was cautiously optimistic that it would go this way.  I volunteered for the campaign so got to see first hand that the support was still there.

I am very proud of my country right now.  I too was cautiously optimistic going into today...we are moving forward.  Much happiness.

I went back and forth over the last few months - in terms of how I thought the election would go. I really have high hopes for the coming years.

Sure, c'mon in! This is Steve. He'll be your date for the evening. We're all going to pretend we're in Colorado and get baked.

Mr booty, a first time voter, is really happy.
As I look at the maps - Obama only lost two states from 2008 - Indiana and North Carolina. That was surprising.

I voted for Johnson but if MN would have been a closer state I would have gone with Obama.  I am happy and more hopeful than I would have been if it had gone the other way.  I actually feel like a weight has been lifted off of me... I don't know if that is a good or a bad thing.  I think he deserves to follow up on what he started.

I'd be happy if one of the happy people could tell me what the plan is for "moving forward".

Also, I'd be really happy if The happy people would tell me that the economy is now Barack Obama's for the next 4 years instead of blaming Bush for the next 4 years and through the next election. So we can "move forward".

Ultimately, as someone who did serve his country, I'm always happy on the day after Election Day because we live in a great country that has free and open elections and we all share a hope that things will get better after every election. If the worst thing someone went through to get to vote yesterday was that they had to wait in a line for 2 hours or that they had to get a library card, that's a pretty good thing.

We were talking with our kids on-line during the election. My youngest is a political studies student/junkie (Go Terps!) who missed being old enough to vote at the last presidential election by just a couple of months, so she was very happy to vote this year via absentee ballot. I was glad they called the results early, since she stayed up last time until they were called later in the night, and then was so excited, she couldn't fall asleep for hours.  Even better for my wife and I, my in-laws decided the lines were too long at their polling place and decided to skip voting, so for the first time in decades, our votes didn't just cancel each other out!

I am happy.

President Obama won, it looks like we will get our democratic governor in Washington to replace the retiring won. Same Sex Marriage looks to be winning in our state and pot was legalized (I told my wife we need to make pot brownies even though I have never and probably never will, done any mind altering drugs - other than alcohol   )

the only things I am still really praying for is that the charter school initiative gets shot down but it is too close to call right now.

I'm happy it's over.

I knew going in that either a Republican or Democrat candidate would win the election, and every one else (and I'm not talking about the other candidates) would lose...
