I did have a sketch of one with the M-dot, but decided against it, just because I don't know if I will be doing another WTC event. I know it is the "Kleenex" of races and people will know that I am an ironman, but I decided against it.

Also, I didn't get the tattoo large enough to get the ship in. Had to be covered by a tshirt (my own rule).

I got a 3/4 sleeve done in March, touch up will be in January. Can't wait! I love getting tattoos.

I am hoping to get my next tattoo around Christmas--a portrait of my dog that I lost last Christmas Day.

It's actually entirely made up of typography. No significance in the particular characters, other than they fit together to form a bike.

I'm a writer...and a biker. So it seemed a nice meld :-)

I am currently working on the art for my first piece I plan to get about a year from now - LOL Nothing like putting the cart before the horse, right?  I am signed up for IMAZ - my piece will be a Phoenix, LOTS of significance for me. Also thinking about having the phoenix rising towards an Mdot but the Mdot is a maybe. Either way, I will get the phoenix, maybe the numbers since they can be made pretty.

Please post pics once you have it done - I've been considering a phoenix for a very long time (as it has a lot of significance for me as well) and would love to see what you get.   

Actually, that's exactly how you SHOULD do it -- have the artwork for a year, and if you still like looking at it, if it still means as much to you after a year than it did when you made it, then that's the design to use for a permanent piece on your skin. If it doesn't, then it means you either don't really want the tatt, or that's not the right artwork for you.

Honestly that is my thought as well. I currently have no ink and wouldn't want to do something impulsive. I have already changed my mind a couple of times so I'd like to be sure for a while before anything permanent.

My thinking with the phoenix, along with all the personal significance, is even if the race did not go as planned it would still be applicable. For me it would be more about where I came from and how far I have gone. If you take a look at my blog the post about IMAZ explains a lot.  I was born in phoenix and lived there until I was 9. My nickname as a child was bird so in addition to all other 'rising from ashes' symbolism it has a lot of touch points for me.  I am looking at something more artistic than literal. Found a design I like and am tweaking it a bit.
