A VERY good fall/winter season.

so far, I have seen Argo, Skyfall, Flight, and Lincoln and all of them are MUST GO's, IMO.

There are several more on the list to go see.

Anything you have seen and can endorse?

It's funny, there's been hardly anything I've wanted to see for I can't say how long, and now all of the sudden there's too many.  We saw Skyfall on friday and I thought it was awesome, I could even see going back to see it again.  On the list is Lincoln and The Hobbit.  Also heard On The Road was supposed to be coming out around christmas but I haven't seen any ads for it so I'm not sure if that's still on or what.

I saw Skyfall for the second time over the weekend. It’s awesome. I won’t call it the best Bond movie ever, because that’s just too subjective, but I’ve seen every movie more times than I can count, and it’s one of my favorites.

Still need to see Argo and Lincoln.

Wreck-it Ralph is pretty good. The animated short film at the beginning is great—almost worth the price of admission by itself.

I’ll see the Hobbit, but I’m already annoyed that it’s been split up into three movies. It’s totally unnecessary. It would have been just fine in two parts, and, honestly, it would have been possible to make a perfectly good version in one three-hour movie. I’m worried that Peter Jackson is going to take all kinds of liberties with it, like he did with LOTR. The Hobbit was one of my favorite books as a kid, so I’ll take it very personally if he messes it up.

Me too.  TLOTR makes sense since it was a three book series.  It needed to be three long movies.  But the Hobbit (which I read at least 20 times as a kid and my most favorite book) could be done well in on long film, maybe two released reasonably close together.

Saw Skyfall last week. While good, I wouldn't say it was great. Decent action scenes. Not much in the way of Bond girl action. Little too much emotional baggage.

Saw Looper over the weekend. Low expectations so positively surpised. Interesting concept. Good casting.

Looking forward to seeing Lincoln.

Totally agree with you that Argo, Flight and Lincoln are must sees (I've yet to see Skyfall but really want to). I also saw Silver Linings Playbook which I thought was very good, but I'd rank it behind Argo, Flight and Lincoln. Life of Pi was visually stunning (saw it in 3D - my first 3D experience) and definitely worth the trip to the movie theater. You really need to see it in 3D. I even saw Pitch Perfect, which wasn't too bad (but certainly doesn't rank anywhere near the others mentioned in the post).

No other movie can compare to the final Twilight movie!
Ugh, saw it with the wife. Now I will say this, I read the books and enjoyed them well enough. I didn't even mind the first couple of movies, but these last two have been beyond horrible.

That said, Skyfall was great.

Wreck it Ralph was AWESOME! Finally a good clean kid movie that I didn't have to cringe at sexual jokes and other crap. Just a good clean movie with a good clean messages. No evil idiot parents, no evil business people or trying to push social or political agendas, just a good story about how being a good person is more important that what other people think of you.

"The D is silent"

Saw a trailer when we went to see Silver Linings Playbook. That was pretty decent and has a strong regional connection. I want to see Skyfall but wifey doesn't. We both want to see Lincoln. Neither of us like Ben Affleck a little bit so no real desire to see Argo

Sadly, the last two are the best of the 4 movies...

Haven't seen anything this fall

Want to see Skyfall, Lincoln, The Hobbit, Django Unchained (like that he used the original Django theme music in the latest trailer), and Les Mis.  but we've yet to find a babysitter since we moved, and we aren't going to visit family for xmas - that was the plan, stash the kid at the grandparents while we spend the day watching movies.

Seriously, not one of you have posted about Les Mis yet!

Original Django trailer

Django Unchained, but you've got to go all the way to 2:20 for the music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8CZKbDzP1E

I saw an extended trailer of Les Mis and it looks unbelievable.

One of the things that I think is cool about it is that, unlike most musicals, the singing is all "live". Iow, with most musicals, the actors perform the music in a studio with an orchestra long before they actually act the scenes out on set. The pre-recorded music is played on set and the actors are filmed lip-synching to the vocals they've already sung weeks before.

In this production, the actors have tiny earpieces and are listening to the music played into their earpieces and are singing the lyrics while they're performing. High Jackman explained that for an actor, this is much better because you can make your dramatic choices in the moment, with the co-stars, on set, in costume, rather than in a studio, by yourself, weeks before. So, for the audience, it's closer to the experience of watching the show on stage vs like a typical musical.

Saw it in non-3d the other night. If you liked Crouching Tiger (the story-telling, not the fighting) then you'll like Pi. Tigers are my favorite animal so I was going to enjoy it regardless.

Can't really say much else without spoilers.

It was fantastic. It's obviously a tragedy, so pretty sad and the whole theater was balling by the end, but well done.

Agreed to all of the above. The thing I could not understand about Lincoln was that they left out the part about him killing vampires like in the first version.

Flight was spectacular. I just wanted to grab denzel and give him a good smack. The wife said it was the first movie with him that she wantted to see him get his butt kicked.

Saw the Hobbit. It was everything I expected, but seriously If this is going to be a trilogy, why wasn't return of the king at least  2 parts. There were some epic battle scenes of the same scope of the Hobbit.

Were the directors afraid people would lose interest?
