Total Time = 1h 04m 24s
Overall Rank = 24/96
Age Group = 50-59
Age Group Rank = 3/?
Pre-race routine:

Done on a whim, so I wasn't sure I'd have everything set to go, but I threw it all in the truck and hoped for the best. It was apparently a cyclonaut's event for Bill Lodi and I was happy to be involved/invited. Didn't go along with the 'speedo' shorts which all others did. sometimes it's OK being the outlier...

set up shop/chatted with Doug and Gerry and met a bunch of other nice people along the way; quick warm up swim did not settle my nerves
Event warmup:

swam 5 minutes; water was warm, I was not nervous but the crowds didn't start getting closer yet..
Swim
  • 09m 11s
  • 450 yards
  • 02m 02s / 100 yards
Comments:

73 out of 99!! Really, truly, one of the worst swims I've ever had. And then I cut my foot walking out of the water and limped to the bike, but the bleeding had mostly stopped
What would you do differently?:

There is too much to say...
Transition 1
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

just getting it done and trying to breathe a bit slower, sitting down to put on the bike shoes, I thought about putting socks on to stop the bleeding but it was stopping already
What would you do differently?:

swim like a normal human athlete
Bike
  • 30m 54s
  • 11 miles
  • 21.36 mile/hr
Comments:

Could not control my breath for the better part of 5 miles. Tried to hold FTP +/- the entire way and let the chips fall where they would on the run. It's fun pushing like that. Could have done better on the downs but burned a lot of matches on the ups
What would you do differently?:

Probably nothing, I liked going at it hard. 6/99 on the bike split OA baby and beat out both the Guertins on the bike-they must not have been trying..
Transition 2
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

was chatting it up a bit with people in transition-not a lot of focus
but I got my stuff off/on and got out of there OK; under 1 minute is always my goal
What would you do differently?:

Focus
Run
  • 22m 11s
  • 3.12 miles
  • 07m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

It was hot. I pushed but didn't want to injure myself for the HIM this weekend so I was lucky that I didn't tweak anything-especially at those run paces, fast for me. Happy enough with 30/96 OA. There are always faster people out there, I just have to run within my self.

What would you do differently?:

zippo
Post race
Warm down:

sat in the lake, cleaned out my cut and took some advil
checked on another cyclonaut who had similiar issues with breathing as me and I think he has asthma (I gave him my inhaler, gotta get another tomorrow as that was my only rescue inhaler)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

sprint tri is about execution of each leg-quickly, smoothly and holding your best pace, today, I was average to above average for the total grade.
Swim=D
Bike=A
Run=A-

PR for the sprint distance for me.

Event comments:

fun race, fun night-wish I could have had the time to go out and socialize, but not tonight...Go Cyclonauts!

awful, pathetic, terrible; get over your anxiety Dale!! my mind is losing the battle, but I'll be back.
Suit: Helix Sleeveless
Course: Around the ducks on the sides to the orange turn buoy and back. Short course of ~450 or less and that didn't even help me. When others are out of the water in 5 or 6 minutes and you are still at/near the turn buoy, it is disheartening. Really unable to swim any consistent time period with out feeling breathless. Not asthma, definitely anxiety.

so i jogged out to the bike start line, did a flying mount and then started to hammer. I couldn't breathe at the start and it took 5 miles before that changed to the better. No HR monitor probably helped as I would have wigged more looking at such high numbers. That was *cough* hard...but I liked it. AP=210/NP=234;IF=.997; c=84; TSS=52
Wind:
Course: 2 loops around the lake, some 90 degree turns and rolling hills. If you are slower out of the water, you have the opportunity to pass more people-how fun!

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.

The triathlon made a lot of sense as I could fit the training around early mornings and other times that wouldn't eat too much into my family time. Things never go completely to plan do they?

I found a sprint, the Lake Las Vegas Triathlon, that was happening four months down the road and signed myself up; much to the surprise of friends and family.

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The first time I ventured into the deep murky green lake and could not see the bottom my muscles tensed and my imagined fears surfaced. What exactly lies beneath?

Both the Lake Triathlon Shoe CX210TRI and the Lake Road Shoe CX225 offer distinct advantages. I tested both shoes and found them to be extremely comfortable, good looking and durable.
