Did you ASK for this opinion or did this person just think you needed this information? Seriously..... if it's a technical thing, that's information. I'm not good enough to be in the Olympics. Got it. And if I were secretly harboring a desire to be in the Olympics, then that might be information that I need. If it wasn't data, though, then it was an opinion. I'd recommend caution in giving other people the power to define you as "good enough", "pretty enough", "smart enough" or any other "enough." You are good enough, smart enough and pulled-together enough to make those decisions for yourself. Andrea |

There are people in everyones life at sometime or another who drain us, who have a negative impact on us all the while somehow convincing us that they are only being "honest" with us or mean to be supportive. We know who they are because we always feel worse about ourselves after being with them but don't make the connection between their "honesty" and our feeling. Make the connection. Break free. Accomplish your dreams. The only failure is in not trying. Just my two cents. |

Who gets to tell you what you're good enough for? (terrible ending of sentence with preposition... I'm not a good enough writer to care!) No way, Jose... No one talks to anyone like that. Unacceptable. You must explain further so we can grasp the full context of what happened and who said that to you... I've had plenty of people tell me I'm not a good enough:
But I've never been told I'm just plain not good enough... That's wrong, and bad for the self esteem... Although YOU decide ultimately if you're good enough, and for what. That's why you're here, and that's why you do what you do... You're good enough to be a triathlete... you're good enough to train/swim/bike/run... And I'm good enough to stop my infuriated rant and let you explain further. Talk, sister! LW |

Everyone here is right, but I'll say it too...Only you get to define yourself. Chucky Finster is right, use this as a challange. While ultimately you only have to be good enough for yourself, take you next race number and go back and pin it to that pinheads forehead!! Every time you walk out that door to train you are good enough, every time you log on to this web site you are good enough, simply put every time you look yourself in the mirror you are good enough. When I told my family I was training for a triathlon my step father actually laughed out loud. Then when I went out for a 22 mile ride followed by a 3 mile run, while he sat on the lanai and smoked, I looked at him and he looked at me and we both knew what the truth was. It’s like an encouragement to strengthen me. The better thing to answer people like that is to show them that when you want, you can and you do. Follow your path and don't worry about them.
