Looks to me like we experienced our first bona fide troll in 455halfim. I had typed a rather long response to his question on my PBs, only to find that management had frozen his poll thread. Turned out he was not only ignorant and without humor, but vulgar as well. If he's been banned, then good riddance to bad trash.

I do want to thank everyone who defended me on that thread, I think it showed that we may have our differences but we truly are a community.

I was typing my post in defense of the Bear, and by the time I submitted it, the post had been frozen. But the moment has passed... no compliments for you! :-)

Clearly I am out of the loop. This post must have been introduced, hazed and banned while I was sleeping!!

But I would defend you to the death, bear. Well, that's a little excessive--but I'd at least defend you to the point of slight (very) discomfort!! Gladly!

My mother always said not to fight with anyone uglier than you are, as they have nothing to lose.

Just to be clear, I meant that whatshisname is uglier than the bear, with or without lipstick.
Let whathisname go be annoying somewhere else.

Well, I did say that while you can be prickly, you'll take as good as you give, that you are not hypocritical. I also said that you really live up to the moniker "Bear"; that you're kinda pushy and certainly have claws, but there's something pretty cuddly about you, nonetheless. I know that sounds like a bunch of back-handed compliments, but I like people like that, actually. You remind me of my best friend's dad when I was a little kid. He was a proud former Marine and stuck between being the one of the coolest guys I'd ever met and the biggest a-hole I'd ever met. So, I always make up that you're a former Marine who swills many, many Buds a day and brags about his skiing days (otherwise known as law school).  Oh, and that you have a big beer gut and really nice legs. But that option wasn't on the poll. *shrug* Anyhoo, I'm glad you're on the board. You entertain me far more often than you piss me off.

Let's not get carried away...... With all the other critters on here, you have some competition. Ducks, Kats, puppies, doggs, and kittens are cuter than alot of bears....

just out of curosity, what defines a beginner on this site? The bear, with his weath of knowledge, must certainly no longer be a beginner. So far,I did 3 sprints and a half iron all this summer, am I a beginner? Am I allowed to be on your site?

If you behave yourself. There are people here that have been tri-ing for four years. Me, if you would have done your research you would know that I have done one mini-sprint. I've never professed to being anything but a beginner.

Do have amore extensive background as a marathoner and a cyclist, though.

Why are you so obsessed with Bear's PB? I think it's that you secretly admire him from afar...

BTW, what are YOUR PB's, tough guy?

Seems to be a rut you're in here, so let me go ahead and answer so you can move on. I had a nice long reply typed up before The Powers froze up the other thread, but here's the short version:

I've done nine marathons, PR earlier this year at 3:58. Decidedly MOPer, never claimed to be anything else. Done 1:45 in the half, 46 minutes in the 10K.

I've done a dozen or so centuries, PR there is 5:15 total, 5:05 on the bike. Never done a fifty for time, I have a 17-mile time trial course on which I've averaged 21.7mph .

Did the one sprint tri, like I said, don't remember the specific time but feel free to reference the race report. Did finish second in my age group.

Still can't figure what speed has to do with anything. Review my posts, you'll find that few if any contain tips for improving your speed. Sure don't have to be a Cat1 to recommend what kind of frame pump someone should buy.
