Subject: Is this true??

I did not want to hijack the men's locker room thread with this question but the Uncle Ted post made me want to ask (btw that thread is still my favorite - never fails to bring tears to my eyes from laughing so hard)

I understand that men's bathrooms have an odd number rule? that unless it is a venue like Fenway park men only will only use the end urinals if there are 3, and if someone decides to use the middle one then the other guys wait in line, and so on with 5 - so that there truly is always an empty urinal between them....unless dividers have been installed....

as I site here LOL tell me is this really true???

No...  we are guys, we actually don't care... most guys will just pull up to the urinal, look straight ahead, zone out like there is no one there.. others will strike up a conversation.

Depending on how bad guys have to go I've seen them use the sink as a urinal, and actually share the urinal..

Man Law:

Men are required to leave one urinal between themselves when urinating simultaneously. If there are three, for example, and the end urinals are being used, it is perfectly acceptable to use the middle urinal, unless there is a stall available, then the stall shall be the point of urination. If all stalls are filled and the end urinals are occupied, it is acceptable to use the middle urinal but no conversation shall take place and eyes must be locked forward, and preferably focused above the eyeline. A man using a urinal is allowed to speak ONLY drunken profanity or about the inability of his team to score or play defense, then the other urinal users are allowed to, at most, slightly nod in agreement or disagreement but say nothing, keeping the eyes above the eyeline at all times.

There are defined protocols for EMPTY urinals when an option is available.

For instance, say there are 5 urinals and X marks the urinal occupied

                 A   ---  B  --- C  --  D --  E

When empty - you choose "A" or "E" to give maximum distance for anyone else.

                 A   ---  B  --- C  --  D --  E

                 X

you choose "E".  Do NOT choose "B".  "C" is acceptable and "D" is a personal foul because if you choose "D" that means the next guy must be shoulder to shoulder with someone else as

                 A   ---  B  --- C  --  D --  E

                 X                          X

means that B, C and E all over NEXT TO someone else.

For:            A   ---  B  --- C  --  D --  E

                  X                                  X

you obviously take "C"

there are additional rules (but I have to leave for my run),

The gist of it is that you have to be thinking ahead when approaching the urinal...

Actually, I don't believe this is a true man law but rather a littlegirlyman law devised by those who are to shy to perform at said urinal in the presence of others. Advice to those, of course, is to HTFU.

Male bathroom etiquette can be reduced to a few simple rules:

- Don't talk... or sigh... or hum
- Eyes straight ahead at all times
- If there is a line for the urinals, maintain a respectful distance so as not to cause "performance anxiety"
- In the stalls, no excessive foot tapping or hand motions under the partition
- Get in, do your business, then leave as quickly as possible

If guys would just stick these rules, the world would be a better place.

I find it repugnant when a woman parades into the mens bathroom and proceeds to pee in the sink...

Guys tend to separate when there is no divider. You need to keep equal space between you and the guys on either side.

I think the odd rule applies in most circumstances.

unless your packing a 10 gallon bladder, have some serious pressure problems or just can't preform under pressure, what does it matter who is standing next to you for 30-60 seconds while your letting junior out to pasture, you're not there long enough to have an in depth  conversation anyway

how would  you know when some one else is looking unless your looking around yourself

I agree with the bear, except for the part where he wants the guy in the next urinal to harden up. not that there's anything wrong with that.......

And there's the unspoken Man Law about leaving one stall space when more than one person is deliverin' the goods, shall we say, at the same time. Of course I have total anxiety and can't drop a deuce in public. My sphincter clinches up like a Russian coal mine.

All crap. When you have to go, you gotta go. Period.

True. Sometimes you gotta go and it doesn't matter which one you get to because it's coming out one way or the other. Just be sure not to leave it on the floor. That's CLEARLY not allowed in locker/bath rooms.

Yep. You thought we all subscribed to the `unzip and let 'er rip' school of thought didn't you?

Which I can see since that's how we are with most things.

There's no line as long as there's an open urinal. But given the option, you don't use the one next to some one.

But I often like to mess with guy's minds and take the middle one...

I have to tell this story - happened to a Malaysian friend of mine.  The background to this story is the fact that many Chinese people do not understand the concenpt of "lining up", and that most public mens room in China do not have urinals.

Friend went home to Malaysia for a visit.  Malaysia is a popular destination for Chinese tourists.  One time Friend was in the men's room of a restaurant doing his business in front of a urinal.  All urinals were in used, and there was a line waiting.  All of a suddent the 4th guy in line (Chinese tourist) came up beside Friend and began to unzip.  Friend freaked and yelled.  Created a big commotion in the men's room.

What would guys do if someone try to share your urinal?

At my college, they removed the sinks from all of the boys dorm rooms.  Left 'em in the women's dorms.  Hey, when you gotta go.... the tap is almost like flushing

As Bear and Spokes said.

If there's the option to use a urinal with an empty one in between, then fine.  But if not, then you cowboy up.  The only one's that don't are those that can't handle the pressure.  Anyone see the movie "Waiting..."?

And yes, the sink is used in extreme circumstances (ala NFL games).  But I personally draw a line at this (usually), it's crossing a line in the food chain.
