I thought I might share as well.  First pic is from my race a few weeks ago and the second is my son helping me train..

Hey Stan....here's my jealous moment.....We were watching CSI NY last night. My wife says, "Central part looks so nice. Wouldn't it be nice to go for a run there?" And then I thought, I know a guy who does get to do that everyday if he wants.

But, Trevor, on that show CRAZY stuff happens in Central Park!  I used to run there and it is really cool, especially early on Sunday mornings before all of the bicyclists and rollerskaters come out!

X2...Tracy you are one awesome buff chica!  I want shoulders like yours

Only action pic is in my avatar.  There are more to come later this year for sure.

Picked up packet today for my 40 mile ride at Germanfest on the 26th.

Registered for my first tri sprint in two years!   Count down is on to May 17!  Can't wait to get these stitches out of my face and get to training!

I'm with you.. if you don't bike or run early enough you also have to avoid all the gifts the horses leave on the road..

x3  Tracy obviously your training has paid off.

Are there beer stations during your 40 mile ride?  That would make for a very fun ride..  though I think you can get a DWI on bike..

SSMinnow - 2009-04-16 4:03 PM Gosh, I wish we could have an encounter somewhere.  We are a bunch of hotties!

Tracy--when I first looked at the crash picture I was stunned.  I was trying to figure out how you could have gotten that hurt and still be planning an Olympic.  YOU GO GIRL!  You are one buff chick.

Kim--where I come from we call that bra stuffing AND I never thought of doing that for an event.  Maybe on Monday!  Love the dog.

Tony--gotta love the sideburns in pic #2.  I think I am going to start calling you Elvis.  Do you have blue seude shoes?

John--I don't think you look whipped.  I think you look proud as does your whole clan.  That is the great thing about this sport.  You can be sweaty and stinky and people still want to hang around with you.

Reuben--I don't think you look big, I think your "Chopper" looks tiny.  I swear your legs are as long as my whole body.

Rob--great running form, especially on grass.  Do they not have paved roads in Canada yet?

And in honor of Trevor, I'm off to practice kissing some butt!

Suzy

HAHA that is my helmet, it has what are basically ear covers, makes it more aerodynamic.

Hey, I'm still struggling with names...

tahrens - shaved legs!  That's all natural.  I only have to shave twice a week.

Trevor - my sis would probably decline.  She's 48 and more into riding Harley's than bikes.  She does run though.

swbkrun - I'm a big boy.  6'9" 265.  And I do ride a 61.  And appropriately it's a Giant!

To get back to the request for signing with names.  Everybody should put their first name in their signature (or create a signature if you don't have one).  That's the only reason I even use a sig.  That way it's automatic.
That or someone send me a spreadsheet I can open on my 2nd monitor to cross-reference names.

Now on a serious note.  I had a 3 mile run scheduled today with a 12 miler Saturday.  I had not run for a week before my 4 miler yesterday due to some knee and shin discomfort (I felt great yesterday).  Today, rather than take it easy I just ran at what my body was physically wanting to go at.  I ran 3.3 at a 9:04 min/mile pace.  My mini pace is about 10:15/mile.  A fastest 3 mile pace has been 8:53/mile.

My question is...two days before a long run should I always hold back?  Or is OK to push it this hard before a long run?  I will say this 9:04 was much easier than the 8:53.

No beer stations along the ride, but free entry into Germanfest and tickets for two free beers.  Beer is a good recovery drink isn't it?  Maybe I will add a lime to it for some extra vitamins...

Hey Reuben

Are you training for anything in particular? In general, I give myself at least two days of recovery between a Tempo run and a long run.  That way you can enjoy the benefit of both without fear of injury.  I think your Saturday run will be a good test of how this affected you.  Just make sure you get some good stretching after a more strenuous run (or bike), especially the shins, IT Band and calves.  Good luck!

Hey Shawn

Don't worry about missing a few days or a few pages.  When I travel for work there is no way I can keep up.  Nice jobon the bike and run yesterday.  Can't wait to get outside on my bike next week!

Make it a good day!

Straight bars?  Have you ridden with them before, heard they wern't very comfy.  Those eastons look nice but you have to make sure you get the right size because you can't adjust them at all, and they are super light which is nice.

I see many of you have the 2009 Mentor Group from the winter in your short term goals.  Is anyone working on one for this group?  I have no idea how create it but will be happy to give it a shot.

How are you adding the HIM logos to your short term goals (ex. IM Boise in Steve's logs)?  I just cant get the friggin' thing to work...user error of course!

Thanks  HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Jeremy said he would make the table, just need to PM him with your info.

If you have the rich text editor TinyMCE, (you can turn that on in your settings)  you should have a little box that looks like a tree, click that and you can link to a picture if it is stored somewhere else.

Morning all!  Just wanted to check in before I start working.  Went to the pool this morning and got in 750m.  I still can't do 300 straight through but it is getting easier.  My rest breaks have gone down a lot and I think I've finally figured out the bilateral breathing.  I want to make sure I'm comfortable with it just in case, although I'll probably do mostly one-sided during my race.

Question on swimming - I want to sign up for my August tri and they are asking for an estimated swim time.  Right now it takes me about 9-10 minutes to do 300m (I know I'm slow, but I'm working on itSmile) - that's with several breaks.  I think that swimming 300 straight by August shouldn't be a problem as long as I keep up with the workouts, so I expect that my time will drop between now and then.  So what should I put down as an estimated time?  I don't want to be where a lot of people are going to have to swim around me, but I also don't want to the be the one having to swim around a lot of other people.  Would 7:30-8:00 be too much of a reach or should I stay closer to 9:00?

I'm afraid I don't have many race pictures, this one is from the Flying Pig 10k last May.  I hope to get some new ones in a couple of weeks!

I would put the 7:30 - 8:00 time or faster.  My first tri last year seeded by swim times and I put an honest time down and ended up being at almost the very end.  I ended up having to stand 4-5 times and swim around a ton of people.  So imo everyone seems to over-estimate so over-estimate yourself a bit and you should be in the right spot.

CAUTION : This advice is coming from a fellow newbie..I would submit based on where you are at. Every race that I have signed up so far for, has given you the option of sending in a revised swim time. So if you do improve(which of course you will), you can resend. That way you don't feel the pressure in training of having to hit that wild and crazy quick time.

It's Friday and we are on page 13...mean anything?

Janet, I would go with a faster seed time.  Make it realistic, but push yourself a little.  You then have a real goal to work towards and you have plenty of time to get there.  If things just don't happen for some reason then you can revise your time...most races do allow folks to revise seed time right before the race (watch the race website).
Go for it!  Good luck!

Happy Friday everyone!

Good morning everyone!

It is a beautiful day here, a nice change from the snow of last week!!  I have a bike ride planned for tomorrow.  Had a question though.  Has anyone had a bike fitting and felt kinda uncomfortable on the bike??  It felt fine on the trainer during the fitting, but I feel a little awkward on the road.  My saddle was raised and moved back and my aerobars moved in.  The saddle adjustment feels fine, no problems.  But I feel a bit ... um, unsteady? ... in the aerobars.  I never felt like this before.  Do you think it is something I will get used to?  Or should I just move them back?  I have only had one ride of 26 miles on the bars in their adjusted position.  Maybe I will just give it a little bit of time to see if I get adjusted to the change?

Good luck with races and training this weekend!

SSMinnow - 2009-04-16 5:03 PM .

Rob--great running form, especially on grass.  Do they not have paved roads in Canada yet?

Suzy

Nice Suzy.very nice  Actually we finally got a paved road just leading into Guelph. We are so excited. It only took about 150 trees split and laid side by side. It's a little bumpy but the dog sleds fly right over them. I hear next year we are going to get a stop sign and who knows what new fangled items they will dream up after that. Probably something like the wheel.

It's gonna be a great day today. 19 C and sunny. I am going to do my required morning swim and then take a long leisurely ride this afternoon. This will be the first time on the road with my bike properly fitted and with clipless pedals. I should really clean the chain first but we'll see how that goes.

Have a great day everyone and good luck to everyone racing.
