Master 3870 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED JJ- - 2013-03-06 7:38 AM Well day 3 of running every day and I think this might actually be working. Ran 1.5 miles this morning with no pain. Little bit of tightness at the end but no pain. Success! Yippee! Now, in your excitement, don't do anything silly like jump around doing heel clicks |

Master 7712 Orlando | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED rrrunner - 2013-03-06 10:18 AM Another manatee who can't follow instructions Back to the music question... I have to go with the "everything" group, but mostly classic everything. Love classic rock, it's my coming of age music, Journey, Scorpions, Quiet Riot, Aerosmith, Def Leppard, G&R, Eagles, Chicago, Ozzy ... Love classic country too, Reba, George, Randy, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn... I like some of the modern stuff, Don't care for Miranda Lambert but her husband is hawt, Josh Turner can sing to me anytime, Brad Paisley I like when he actually sings, don't care for his comedic songs, Keith Urban, yum I also love jazz: Maynard Ferguson, Joss Stone and of course Glenn Miller, musicals: Phantom of the Opera (fave), Joseph and the Amazing..., Cats, Les Mis My car radio is usually on a Christian alternative rock station. They play Anberlin, Switchfoot, Abandon Kansas, POD, Family Force 5, Flynn Adams I do hip/hop/rap and heavy metal/hard rock too. People make fun of me because when my Ipod is on shuffle it can go from Phantom to Metalica to Philip Phillips. I was a band geek in jr high/high school and a music major in college until I figured out I'd need a real job. Love to sing. |

Master 4452 | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED So this AM at Masters I was swimming in a lane I don't usually. There is a guy in the lane and we are close to the same speed. He was drafting off me for a set, probably about 100m. I've had women draft off me before a fair bit but never a guy. He was HEAVY! I can feel the women a little bit, like you know they are there. But holy moley, it felt like this guy was actually tied to me and I was having to drag him along. Just my Wednesday morning observation |

Just my Wednesday morning observation That is really interesting. I've never had anyone draft off of me so I can't imagine that sensation. Once in a while if the ladies are doing their water aerobic stuff in the lane next to me the water feels "thicker" to pull. |

Just my Wednesday morning observation This happened at a race once. This big guy was drafting, and boy could I feel it. So I pulled up at the next wall (pool swim) and let him lead. That was my easiest swim ever. |

Your approach is a wise one, getting used to the bike and how it operates/feels before going out onto a road. TX Jon: WOOO HOOOOO!! Congrats on the pain-free run! Felecia: very sorry to hear you are sick. Blame the crazy weather for sure. Edited by melbo55 2013-03-06 12:30 PM |

Pennsylvania | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED And now the music question, oh boy. Definite dislikes: most modern country as it really depresses me (I do like the older stuff like you hear on Sirius' Willie's Roadhouse, though) and gangsta rap. As many other manatees have stated about their music collecitons, my iPod has a crazy variety from one end of the musical spectrum to the other and most points in between. As far as radio, I listen to WXPN, a local college station that actually has a very wide broadcast area and can also be streamed online because (no commercials, except their own promos!) and they play a huge variety from the up-and-comers (Last Bison, Lone Bellow, Mumford & Sons before they got big) to the legends who have been around for a long time. Favorite genres, as requested: alternative, blues, funk, rock, rockabilly, swing, soul, 70s and 80s pop, some punk, ska. Music that has a full, rich sound (Buena Vista Social Club), stuff with brass (Blood, Sweat & Tears). Some of my very favorite artisits: Red Hot Chili Peppers (Anthony Kiedis, slurp!), Rodrigo y Gabriela, Vampire Weekend, B. B. King, Southern Culture on the Skids (have seen them in concert more times than I can recall), Squirrel Nut Zippers, Trombone Shorty, Jack White in his many incarnations and forms, Barenaked Ladies, Jimmy Buffett. Chris, you ask painfully tough questions! Your inquiry took a while to reply to and I'm still not satisfied with my answers! |

Seattle | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Sounds like a whole lotta music lovers in here. And no one else is going to SXSW???? It's the best music festival EVER. It's bands playing big traditional venues to bands literally playing in the restrooms of the venues, in the back of pickup trucks that are driving downtown Austin. Oh yeah, every venue typically has a food (usually BBQ) sponsor, a beer sponsor and a liquor sponsor so you eat and drink for free if you so wish. Did I mention the music itself is free too? |

I caught a really nice trout! Here I am swimming toward the Maori cliff carvings on the lake. They are breathtaking. Oh nice! Very nice... I'm a weee bit jealous... Your rainy Narrows Bridge footage is close I was secretly hoping you would love that video so much you would want to come down here and run with me during the next rain storm.. Then I could mark one more thing off my bucket list... I'll trade you a running session for a swim session If we coordinate it right...this could be a win, win. Oh yeah, I love running the Narrows! I have only done it a few times which is crazy considering I have lived here all my life. My family lives over there so I will let you know when I am coming through again. This Muskrat is very excited! If you want, we can warm up before the HM together (assuming you don't have any train/plane/automobile/country music-esk issues) I am going to do day of packet pick-up so I will be there early anyhow. |
